I really liked the fit and length of this parka and wore it as my winter coat in Michigan. I was happy until I found that the seems on the lower sleeve were coming apart. I can't wear this coat anymore. I am very disappointed. I think I just happened to receive a lemon. :(

I like this jacket so far. I've been wearing it a couple of weeks. It fits me well (5'8", 120#, 36" hips, wearing a size small). I'm a horseback rider and appreciate the long length of the coat when riding, as well as the velcro cuffs and zip pockets. The hood is generously sized and stays up. It is hard to tell the color on screen - it really is a kind of rusty reddish purplish, not exactly "pomegranate" to me, but I do love the color in person.
It rolls up pretty small - I tie it behind my saddle when it gets too warm to wear it. It seems water-resistant but I haven't worn it in a good soaking rain yet, just showers.
Overall I'd recommend it as a good, lightweight, stylish, warm, windstopping & water-resistant jacket for fall/winter/spring.

    • The sleeves on the Chaos Parka in a size small are 33" long and on the Notion in the same size the sleeves are 32" long. So the sleeves are longer by an inch.

About Outdoor Research

The concept for Outdoor Research was devised in 1981 when climber Ron Gregg’s planned ascent of Denali was cut short, ending prematurely with his frostbitten partner being airlifted off a glacier. The cause was a faulty pair of gaiters. During his descent, Gregg resolved himself to create better gear, a resolution that soon led him to build the first pair of award-winning Outdoor Research gaiters. The concept was simple: Make outdoor apparel and gear with a clear focus on reliability. In the many years since, this brand has continued to blaze new trails with cutting-edge products that now include Outdoor Research gloves, jackets, backpacks and Outdoor Research hats, all engineered to exceed expectations in the most demanding conditions on the planet.
