This was bought specifically for climbing and mountaineering, although it goes under a waterproof shell for ice climbing. OR would do well to improve their women's fit. This is my second OR soft shell and I seem to be bursting around the bust while the tail is short and exposed, so I went up a size ... Read More

I have had this jacket for 3 years now. No complaints-its a nice soft shell jacket. I like that it has longer sleeves-some jackets are too short in the sleeve length for me.

I bought this jacket to have something for extra warmth that is water-resistant for camping and in the city. I expected it to be black, but it is actually a charcoal gray. It's not a bad color, but wasn't what I wanted. Overall, the fit is flattering, but the jacket is a little stiff and shorter than I might like (I'm 5' 8"). I haven't decided whether to keep it or not. It seems like it would be great for cooler nights, and is lightweight and packable. However, I really was hoping for a black jacket.

I was so excited to receive this coat, but when I actually pulled it out of the packaging I thought the order had been messed up. Turns out, "black" is not actually black according to OR, but more of a charcoal gray color. Also, the sizing was wildly off--I am a size small in every other coat I own, but when I zipped this up it would barely fit around my hips, and I was sure to check the size recommendations for this product. Definitely returning it, extremely disappointed.

I'm 5'9" & 150 lbs and the medium fit perfectly. The long sleeves are great!

About Outdoor Research

The concept for Outdoor Research was devised in 1981 when climber Ron Gregg’s planned ascent of Denali was cut short, ending prematurely with his frostbitten partner being airlifted off a glacier. The cause was a faulty pair of gaiters. During his descent, Gregg resolved himself to create better gear, a resolution that soon led him to build the first pair of award-winning Outdoor Research gaiters. The concept was simple: Make outdoor apparel and gear with a clear focus on reliability. In the many years since, this brand has continued to blaze new trails with cutting-edge products that now include Outdoor Research gloves, jackets, backpacks and Outdoor Research hats, all engineered to exceed expectations in the most demanding conditions on the planet.
