This is a great hat! I was afraid that it would be too hot but the vent worked well. I wore it on an outing and it kept the sun off my face and shoulders. Fits great! (I am a small)

  • “Is this hat breathable? Will it get too hot when hiking in the sun?”
Asked by des from Blue Ridge Mts on 7/22/2014 8:14:30 PM
    • Yes, this is breathable. According to the product overview above:
      - Ventia Dry waterproof breathable construction
      - TransAction moisture-wicking, quick-drying and breathable headband material
      - Mesh-lined crown for enhanced breathability

    • The hat is waterproof and designed for wet weather and probably not the best for hiking in the sun. I don't recall the UPF rating for the hat, but I would guess that it provides reasonably good protection from the sun. I am less certain that it would provide enough ventilation to be comfortable on a hot day. I can honestly say that this is a great hat when you are out in the rain. I hope that this information is helpful.

    • Truthfully, I'm not sure. I live in the Bay Area so it gets over 85 degrees about three days a year.

I bought it for the waterproof-ness, which again, is great if it isn't too windy. Unfortunately, it's super windy where I live too.

      Not super helpful. Sorry :)

About Outdoor Research

The concept for Outdoor Research was devised in 1981 when climber Ron Gregg’s planned ascent of Denali was cut short, ending prematurely with his frostbitten partner being airlifted off a glacier. The cause was a faulty pair of gaiters. During his descent, Gregg resolved himself to create better gear, a resolution that soon led him to build the first pair of award-winning Outdoor Research gaiters. The concept was simple: Make outdoor apparel and gear with a clear focus on reliability. In the many years since, this brand has continued to blaze new trails with cutting-edge products that now include Outdoor Research gloves, jackets, backpacks and Outdoor Research hats, all engineered to exceed expectations in the most demanding conditions on the planet.
