Didn't even try this one on outside - boxed it back up and returned it. The external fabric is ridiculously noisy and stiff. Sounds almost like Christmas morning crunching up all the wrapping paper.

I had compared features with several other jackets - all had hoods which I really didn't want. This had the best features and including being able to "stow" the hood. That was a joke. There's one loop in back, so you roll the hood a few times (the brim keeps you from rolling it small & tight) and then fasten the loop. But the material is so stiff the hood immediately begins to unroll.

I had high hopes for this jacket. For other applications I'm sure it would be just fine, but it's not for me. I do give STP high marks for the easy return.

Great Jacket, Fits very well, I bought the XL.... I have a pretty big build at 5'10" 225 lbs with a 48" chest and a 34" waist. Gore-Tex fabric kept me dry during a snowboarding trip. Just wish the arm holes were cut a bit larger, but that's a problem i have with almost all jackets.

Ordered this jacket to replace my tired North Face shell. Very happy. Ordered the large which turned out to be a great fit for me (5-10, 175 lbs, 42R, 34 waste). I wanted something that I could wear over a down jacket if the weather got squirrley and this is perfect. Medium would have been too small. Sleeves are a little long but not as much as other jackets that I tried such as Arcteryx. This is an awesome deal for such a technical jacket with Gore-tex pro.Super light weight and love the pockets. The cinch cord for the waste is a little fiddly but this is really nit-picking the jacket. Hood cinches down well if you are not wearing a helmet. This is my second OR jacket. I also have the Foray for warmer weather. Really impressed with what they are putting out now and at prices that don't make you cringe. Highly recommend!

Outdoor Research makes some really great gear. As good as it gets. Technologically advanced. Well thought out design features. Top of the peripherals; zippers, pockets, snaps, drawstrings, etc. The Sierra Trading price was unbelievable, putting this coat, which would normally be out of my budget, within economic reach. However, I was disappointed in the overall fit which ran small in key areas; tight through the armpits, chest and mid-section. I recommend going one size larger particularly when you consider layering.

About Outdoor Research

The concept for Outdoor Research was devised in 1981 when climber Ron Gregg’s planned ascent of Denali was cut short, ending prematurely with his frostbitten partner being airlifted off a glacier. The cause was a faulty pair of gaiters. During his descent, Gregg resolved himself to create better gear, a resolution that soon led him to build the first pair of award-winning Outdoor Research gaiters. The concept was simple: Make outdoor apparel and gear with a clear focus on reliability. In the many years since, this brand has continued to blaze new trails with cutting-edge products that now include Outdoor Research gloves, jackets, backpacks and Outdoor Research hats, all engineered to exceed expectations in the most demanding conditions on the planet.
