I bought these before my last backpacking trip on the Pinhoti Trail in Georgia. We had heavy rains for 3 days while hiking. These gaiters definately helped keep the water and debri out of my boots. I would definately recommend them.

  • “My boots are size 12. Are the larges too small?”
Asked by Scott from Los Angeles on 2/25/2014 11:17:40 PM
    • I wear a 10 1/2 boot with a thick sole and I bought the large. I think the large would be too small for a size 12 based on the strap that goes under the heel.

  • “Under specs, I notice that waterproof material just says "DWR Finish." Does that mean that once the DWR wears off, these gaiters won't be waterproof?”
Asked by David from Vancouver, BC on 2/24/2014 8:40:22 PM
    • This item is actually only water resistant, rather than waterproof. If the DWR were to wear off it would not be as resistant.

  • “What type of strap do theses gaiters have? I'm seeing the same gaiters on REI's site and they show a leather strap with a buckle, not the string shown here.

    REI link w/ leather strap:”
Asked by runaroundaroo from Denver, CO on 6/19/2013 9:22:54 AM
    • The version we have come with replaceable nylon instep strings.

About Outdoor Research

The concept for Outdoor Research was devised in 1981 when climber Ron Gregg’s planned ascent of Denali was cut short, ending prematurely with his frostbitten partner being airlifted off a glacier. The cause was a faulty pair of gaiters. During his descent, Gregg resolved himself to create better gear, a resolution that soon led him to build the first pair of award-winning Outdoor Research gaiters. The concept was simple: Make outdoor apparel and gear with a clear focus on reliability. In the many years since, this brand has continued to blaze new trails with cutting-edge products that now include Outdoor Research gloves, jackets, backpacks and Outdoor Research hats, all engineered to exceed expectations in the most demanding conditions on the planet.
