Can't tell you how it worked for bugs, but I put it through the wash half a dozen times and it looks as new. I was so impressed I bought a spare.

That being said, I like this one. It is light weight and I only remember I'm wearing it when the front flap happens to fall into my line of sight. The insect shield seems to work. When I went out with friends and they all complained of bugs in their eyes while I had no problem. Personally like the style and seems to be a good hat!
