Reviewed by Jen from Maine on Friday, December 12, 2014This coat is everything I was looking for and more. It has a quality feel to it, it's warm but not bulky, has lots of pockets, really cool features (balaclava pocket, roomy hood, powder skirt)... It looks great too. I've only had in a couple of days and have already gotten compliments on it. I live in Maine and was looking for something that would keep me warm during our long winters, and I found it in this coat. I've never bought Outdoor Research-brand clothing before, but will absolutely do so again. Great purchase.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by SkiJulie from Minnesota on Monday, December 8, 2014I haven't had a ski jacket for years but was blown away by this one. It' has tons of pockets and is warm but is not bulky. The hood is kind of big, so not sure I will use that much but I can take it off if its in the way. I love the multicolor threads for the purple tone. I am 5'3" , a muscley 130lb and based on other review, I ordered a medium. The sleeves seemed long but hit at the end of my wrists when I put my arms straight out. It's roomy enough for some layers underneath without feeling constricted.
Reviewed by Kepc from California on Wednesday, November 26, 2014I wear misses' small or small petite tops and jackets. I ordered this jacket in small. The body length was perfect, but the front of the jacket bulged out in quite a rounded way, not very flattering, particularly since I am thin and work hard to stay this way. The fabric and insulation seemed adequate and the orchid color was very nice. I returned this jacket for two reasons. First, the multiple zippers are plastic and feel flimsy. The front zipper is hard to engage and get started, and it is made of the same flimsy plastic as the vent and pocket zippers. I am not interested in spending a lot of money to wind up with crummy zippers. Also, the arms are terribly long and out of proportion to the rest of the jacket in size small. (I can't comment on arm length proportions in other sizes.) One plus is that the underarm area is roomy and comfortable, something I would have appreciated if the jacket had suited the length of my arms and the zippers were of better quality.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Anon from CA on Tuesday, October 14, 2014I loved this jacket. There are subtle variations in the gray color that make it look woven, and the tiny bit of pink is a perfect accent. The jacket was well constructed and the down feels instantly warm, though I did not have a chance to try it in freezing weather. The zippers worked fine on the one I received. The main zipper feels "tight" but exactly like those on the two REI softshells that I have owned, and each one lasted at least 5 years with frequent wear. I am 5'8" and 135 lbs and have a really long torso and arms. I ordered a S. The arms were a perfect length (for my long arms) and yes, are full, but comfortable for moving around and would accommodate layers. The only reason to take off a star and send it back was that the body length was a couple inches too short for my torso.

No, it is a hardshell--but the fabric does feel a little finer (lighter and softer) than a traditional hardshell.
