Peal Izumi Canyon Mountain Bike Shorts-2piece (Women's)Verified Buyer Reviewed by Catalin from Nevada on Sunday, August 6, 2017These are great! The seams are placed so that they do not rub on my saddle. They are comfortable and look nice.
casual cyclingVerified Buyer Reviewed by SuzyQ from Western Mass on Wednesday, July 19, 2017these shorts are great for riding the bike path and/or doing errands - when you want the comfort of a nice short but not the look of straight lycra. the shammy is very comfortable and the shell has a pocket on the leg which is perfect for your phone. Size XL fits perfectly (I generally am a size 14).
Comfortable & versatile!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Cycles from WI on Tuesday, July 11, 2017This is a two-piece bike shorts set; each piece can be worn separately. The outer shorts are lightweight and not too short. The padded shorts can be worn with/under many of my other shorts. The legs are very breathable and compression is not too tight on thighs. The padding isn't bulky, and made for a comfortable seat on a couple of short test rides (10-15 miles).
Double benefitVerified Buyer Reviewed by 2old2tri from New Mexico on Thursday, June 29, 2017Nice looking outer shorts, with an acceptable detachable shamisham inside. These were appropriate for in-town errands, avoiding the diaper-bottom look
Great shorts!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Missy Sibley from Nebraska on Monday, April 24, 2017Liner has a comfy pad and the shell looks like real shorts. Love!!
good fitVerified Buyer Reviewed by arblebeedie from Boise, ID on Friday, April 14, 2017I'm a size 6 and got the medium, great fit on me. The inner shorts, which snap into the outer shorts, don't seem to show as much around the bottom as in the photo, which is OK eiher way. I haven't ridden in them yet but the overall look is much more feminine than normal bike shorts--What I was looking for.
Pearl Izumi Canyon Mtn Bike ShortsVerified Buyer Reviewed by Girl Cyclist from Utah on Monday, March 20, 2017These are extremely comfortable and the price was super!
Good dealVerified Buyer Reviewed by Dexter Dame from Michigan on Sunday, March 19, 2017I always have trouble with fit as I have a small waist for a size 10. There are adjustment tabs in the waistband, but they don't go as small as I need. But I'll do a fix myself and these shorts will work fine. And the removable liner is almost worth the price alone. It would also have been nice to have more than the one small pocket.
Great ValueVerified Buyer Reviewed by SAM from North Carolina on Tuesday, March 7, 2017These seem to run slightly small. I'm a size 4 and ordered the small. It fits, but barely. I was looking for a mountain bike short with the chamois included, and this is a great value. Well constructed. The chamois is substantial enough.

“Is the liner black on all of the styles? And is it the liner a see through mesh? (Trying to figure out if it could really function as a stand alone pair of shorts.)”
Yes, the liner is a black, see-through mesh, it's not super see-through, but it is see-through. The mesh is more of a fabric with holes in it rather than a typical net-like mesh.
I wear the over-shorts alone. I wouldn't wear the padded bike shorts alone--Tho they're not see thru, the fit is a little skimpy (but effective as padding)
