These appeared to be the perfect item for cool weather bicycling here in the North Country - and they are. They are warm, fairly windproof, don't bind and best of all they stay put. The leg zips are actually long enough to be useful, the knee flexes without a cool spot in front (still can't figure out how they did that) and they have a decent rise. I rode with them two days in a row in great comfort. On the third day I left in 26ºf for an all day motorcycle ride with these tights under my armored pants - they were perfect! I stayed warm and dry all day. I see these as perfect for snowshoeing, fat biking and XC skiing. A great, well thought out product.

This is typical Pearl Izumi quality and the fit is good. Hasn't been cool enough to try but looks like it will be warmer than my other tights.
  • Great quality and fit

Great product with a good fit that I will use for cycling in cool weather. I am big and the xxl fit very well. The zippers in the legs make very easy to take on and off while providing a good fit over my socks and cycling shoes. Price was great as well from STD.
  • Great Thermals!

I used these with the Pearl Izumi ELITE Soft Shell LTD Jacket and the combo worked great! It was about 45 - 50 degrees and these blocked the wind nicely and kept me warm and dry. I thought they were padded, but they are not. So I wore a pair of cycling shorts under them and it worked great. I did try them out in 34 degrees, but that was a bit too cold for me.
  • Nice tights

Typical good PI quality. Comfortable on a fast 35 mile ride Thursday. Certainly good for 50's and maybe colder temps. Very satisfied.

Question & Answer

  • “What year are these tights? Pearl Izumi's website mentions "Elite Barrier" tights, but it appears that these are the "Elite" model, not "Elite Barrier" model, right? On tights, you really need to specify whether they have a pad or not. Some of the customers have addressed that, but I want to hear it from you.”

    • These do not have a pad.

  • “are these worn under/over cycling shorts? if not, is there a chamois? thanks!”
Asked by kenbob from Illinois, aka great corn desert on 4/30/2015 8:21:39 AM
    • I wore them over my cycling shorts. I'm not sure if that is how you're supposed to do it, but it worked great for me!

    • You could wear these either way you prefer. This does not have a chamois.

    • My preference in tights are ones without a chamois pad, so I can wear them over cycling shorts, which have a pad. If you are wearing both shorts and tights, you have the option of removing the tights during a ride if it warms up.

About Pearl Izumi

Before Kinji Shimizu created the first Pearl Izumi cycling apparel, he spent nearly seven days a week on his bike delivering 90 pounds of clothes to customers. He frequently pedaled 38 miles a day. Years later, after his son received a special Italian-made cycling jersey, Kinji was inspired to start creating his own using the best fabrics he could find. The result soon evolved into the Pearl Izumi brand. In the five decades since, the company Kinji founded has continued working hard to make the best gear possible for dedicated athletes and weekend warriors. From incredibly lightweight Pearl Izumi shoes to sleek, comfortable Pearl Izumi running apparel, few other brands have the same relentless drive toward innovation as Pearl Izumi.
