Beautiful quality, smells like a barn

Bought this for my 21 year old son. I know from years of buying on STP that unfamiliar brands (for me, in this case, Glover) are a bit of a gamble. This sweater is beautifully made, quality wool. Two small issues - it is sized more for a short, wider man than my son. The Torso is shorter than hoped for (but still reasonable for LARGE), a wider than a fit young man prefers (but perfect for someone with an extra 20 pounds). Still, he likes the sweater, and would keep it BUT it smelled like a barn. Not awful (pure manure), but still, a mix of hay, and whatever else contributes to "barn smell."

I washed the sweater in the washing machine, with both detergent and fabric softener. It held up really well to washing. It smelled better, too - for a couple of hours, after which the barn smell was no longer masked, but slightly diminished. I am keeping the sweater on the assumption that, over time, the smell will diminish and it is worth the wait.

If you have patience with this minor issue, it is a great value. Whatever you do, don't give it as a gift without opening the plastic and smelling the sweater (I almost did). You can buy this, and have it dry-cleaned, and still have a good deal. Perhaps this is just a normal smell for "new wool" (or so, my mother-in-lay, who was raised on a farm, says). Just FYI, is all!
