Most Helpful 5-Star Review
I just used the pack for a week in Hawaii. I can't begin to describe how impressed I am with the quality of the materials and the design. A lot of thought has gone in to this pack and I appreciated it more and more as the week... Read More
Reviewed by Lynn from CO on Tuesday, January 14, 2014I love that this holds 3L of water and provides plenty of room for lunch/snacks, extra socks, gloves, hand-warmers, etc.
It fits well and straps in for easy hiking whether snow-shoeing, hiking, cross-country.ing.
Highly recommend it!
Reviewed by Scottc99 from Connecticut on Monday, April 29, 2013I bought this to use as a standalone hydration pack and to use the bladder with my larger pack, excellent bladder and the backpack fits my torso (20.5") pretty good
Reviewed by Jan M from western North Carolina on Saturday, April 6, 2013I'm very pleased with this pack, which replaces a The North Face 'Isabella.' It is less wide so fits a woman's narrower back well. The sternum and waist straps keep the pack in place. The included 3L bladder is well-designed, easy to fill, use and clean. I especially appreciate being able to detach the hose, leaving it threaded through the pack and strap, in order to remove the bladder. I gave it 5/5 stars because it does what I want/ expect it to and does it well. The only tweaks I can suggest are: 1. easier access to pockets on hip pads and 2. less-stiff plastic closures (I hope they'll relax a bit with use.)
Reviewed by BackPacking Angel from Atlanta on Friday, March 29, 2013I was actually just looking for the hydration bladder and realized I could get this pack for not much more and can just take the bladder out for use in my large hiking pack. I used this on a couple of day hikes and really like it. It doesn't have a TON of space for extra stuff but enough for the essentials. The zippers are all sealed very well so everything stayed dry in the pack.
The hydration bladder is awesome but there are enough reviews out there on the Big Zip 3.0 bladders that I won't repeat anything other than to say, it's easy to add water to and dries super quick.
As for the pack itself, the little pockets in the waist straps are not really easy to get to with the pack on but I finally did get the hang of where they are. They're pretty small though so I don't think I'll use them much but they are handy for sticking trash in. I am not a huge fan of the zippers other than that they're sealed well; the reservoir section only has one zipper and the front pocket has two but they open/close in the same direction (usually you have two zippers so you can meet in the middle). For the price, the features & fit are great and certainly outweigh the little quirks.
Reviewed by AnnaLaurie from Tucson on Wednesday, January 30, 2013Read Andrea's review -- pretty well covers it. The focus here is on WATER, not all the extras. So it is perfect for long day hikes in warm/hot weather, where what you most need is to stay hydrated. But there's plenty of room for a day's worth of snacks and basics (ER kit, knife...) AND IT'S COMFORTABLE and far easier to use than Camelback's complex pack of similar size. This gives us exactly what we need -- no more no less -- for warm hikes.
Question & Answer

“Does this come with the older big zip hydration bladder? The older ones had the blue zipping mechanism that ran over part of the thin plastic and could actually cut the hydration bladder over time. The newer models, the blue zipping mechanism only runs over a layer of reinforced plastic, so no chance of cutting the bladder. Thanks”
Actually after further inspection these have the newer blue zipping mechanism.
It is a 3L.
“could you please take a photo of this pack with a one liter of gatorate or powerade next to it?? Thanks you..”
