5.0 out of 5 stars. NiftyVerified Buyer Reviewed by campgirl64 from Utah on Thursday, October 5, 2017I have not had an opportunity to actually use this out in the field at altitude, but I did light it up when I got it and boiled water for tea. It was fast, efficient, so light and comes in a nifty canvas bag. Super easy to light with the igniter, hoping it does not wear out like the one on my Jet boil did after just two backpacking trips. I figure this will save me about 12 oz in weight using the Primus, a metal boiling cup and a lightweight insulated cup versus the Jet boil set up. Love so much I ordered 5 more for Christmas gifts.

3.0 out of 5 stars. It's briliance has faded a bitVerified Buyer Reviewed by Randaid from Ridgefield WA on Monday, May 22, 2017This is an update on my previous review where I praised the piezo as 'brilliant'. I ended up returning the stove as after two uses, the piezo refused to ignite the burner. It was clearly making a spark, and it would light immediately with a match or lighter but for reasons that remain a mystery the piezo wouldn't spark a flame. I chose a replacement rather than a refund because a friend has this stove and it has worked mostly well for the past year and a half. My replacement does ignite, eventually. So far one out of five times the thing fires right up with the first flick. The rest of the time it can take 6 or 7 flicks before it ignites. The frustrating part isn't so much that it sometimes takes a few repetitive flicks, it's that I have a twenty year old Primus stove with a piezo that ignites first time, every time. Technology is supposed to continually improve right? I love the old stove but the pot supports don't extend very far, and won't support my cook pot with a heat exchanger ring on the bottom.
Maybe the take-away is never leave home without a lighter or matches, and be happy when the technology actually works?
Once it's going, the stove is a champ. The burner head is a little bit larger in diameter than half the stoves out there, so heat distribution to the pot is a little better, but if all you're doing is boiling water, it's a moot point. -
5.0 out of 5 stars. Convenient and efficientVerified Buyer Reviewed by Tom from SF Bay Area on Friday, May 5, 2017While I cannot compare the stove to similar competitors, I can report it works precisely as advertised. Its pretty darn intuitive, small, rugged, and the piezo electric ignition is a big plus. In addition to light camping use, the stove (and fuel) are now part of my earthquake emergency kit.

3.0 out of 5 stars. Piezo failed fastReviewed by Davey Crockett from Tennessee, California on Wednesday, May 3, 2017Great little lightweight backpacking stove—with defects. Tried the stove a couple of times at home, then once in the field. The rest of the stove works great, but the Piezo failed after one single use in the field. No abuse, just depressing the switch normally. Depressing is a good word for the Piezo aspect of this Primus stove.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Best Piezo everVerified Buyer Reviewed by Randaid from Vancouver, WA on Wednesday, March 8, 2017I bought this stove for two reasons: the Piezo igniter is briliant, and the pot supports extend out far enough to accommodate pots with up to 5 1/2" heat exchanger rings on the bottom, Primus & Optimus pots to be specific. Jet Boil pots won't 'sit' on most stoves, including this one, because of the open fin design of the heat exchanger.
This stove heats no better nor worse than any other canister stove. I've had one of these same stoves, although without the igniter, for years with no issues. I've actually got three Primus stoves and they're all fairly bullet proof, and take lots of teenager abuse. Unless your cook pot is really narrow, this thing will fit on its side in the pot. The supports have no hinge joints, they simply pivot around the burner head when folded up for packing. If there's a negative to this stove, I guess that would be it.
Now, the Piezo - every other Piezo I've seen is an add-on contraption that is squeezed between thumb and finger to fire. I was completely content with that design until I saw one of these in the flesh. This Piezo is all contained within a shroud around the stem, and firing it requires only a gentle 'push' down on the tiny lever that extends out from the shroud. It's unbelievably easy to use, especially with cold fingers and in the wind.
If you love matches and lighters, keep what you've got. This won't cook any faster or better. It's just way more fun to light. -

5.0 out of 5 stars. Perfect little stove!Reviewed by Doug from Seattle on Tuesday, July 19, 2016I have had this stove for several years and it still works great. Very similar to a Pocket Rocket, but a fraction of the cost. Many reviews talk about how you can't really simmer with this stove, or most camping stoves for that matter, but I have discovered a workaround. I brought some food on my last backpacking trip which required 15 minutes of simmering. That will use a lot of fuel. Instead, I brought it to a boil and turned it off. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then fire it back up again. It will be boiling in way less than 1 minute. Turn it off again and repeat this until you have reached 15 minutes. It worked like a charm and use very little fuel!
