The ancient shape of the blade harkens back to the fighters of India and southeast Asia. I was skeptical about the functionality of the shape of the blade, but I trust Puma. Now, after some use I'm convinced! This knife is great for clearing brush, hacking firewood, and we even cut the watermelon! Great knife, sheath, handle and price.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Great quality, but a 2nd...

It may be a minor detail, but notice the circular indentation on the hilt where the Puma logo should be. You can see a little glue mark where probably a defective logo button used to be. If you go to the Puma Knife website you can verify the logo existence in their product shot. Just irks me a bit that Sierra Trading Post does not mention this in their product description.

Other than this annoying little detail, the machete itself is great. Good size for packing on the trail, I used it the other day for bushwhacking my way through overgrowth along the NorCal coast. Sharpened fairly well on arrival, a decent honing would make this Kukri 17 XP Machete a beast to be reckoned with.

    I like it.

I did not like this knife at first because of the yellow handle guard, so I cut it off!! Only took a few minutes with a hacksaw, I left a half inch or so as a hilt guard. Knife now has better balance, looks better. This is a good knife, well worth $ 24.00. This is an actual Kukri, I have two kukri style knives with half the curve but same shaped blade. This is a lot more wicked. Not a machete, I bought the Puma machete with a green handle, nice but I have another machete that is very similar so I may return the Puma, but it is well worth the $ 24.00. Would give it five stars along with Kukri.

About Puma Knife Company

Johann Wilhelm Lauterjung started forging Puma knives in 1769 just outside Solingen, a city in western Germany that has been a hub of fine German blacksmithing and knife-making for more than 1000 years. Based in Lenexa, Kansas, Puma Knife Company USA has been the North American distributor of Puma knives since 2009. After nearly two and a half centuries, Puma knife blades are still forged in Germany using only the highest-quality steel. In addition, every Puma knife blade is tested by a Rockwell hardness tester before being shipped to the manufacturer to ensure a superior product.
