Fit: I bought two sizes to compare and needed to size up. I am usually a size 11-12 on top, wear a 34C and have a long 30" waist. The medium was way too tight across bust and hips worn over a thin mid layer. The size large solved these problems and yet was still slim. Good: The neck and hoodie a... Read More

The fit and workmanship on this jacket is beautiful. It has oodles of pockets, is toasty warm for California winters, waterproof, and machine washable. I am 5'2", 130 lbs (59 kg) with 38 inch hips (97 cm), the sleeves are longish on me and the jacket zips up fitted but not tight around my hips while wearing light to midweight base layers. I scored 4 stars because the lining material doesn't look very durable but I hope to be proven incorrect.

I was looking for a super warm everyday winter coat, and this one fits the bill. It's warm, comfortable and fits well. It has lots of pockets that either zip or button. I ordered 4 coats to try, and chose this one.

Love the quality and features of this coat! It does run small, so you may need to order a size up. (I'm 5'7, 125 lbs and needed the medium). In my opinion the black color is more like a black/brown.

Fit: I bought two sizes to compare and needed to size up. I am usually a size 11-12 on top, wear a 34C and have a long 30" waist. The medium was way too tight across bust and hips worn over a thin mid layer. The size large solved these problems and yet was still slim. Good: The neck and hoodie are extremely attractive as the fur frames your face without getting in the way. Shoulders do not restrict movement. The coat slides on easily. Sleeves are long and adjust at the cuff with velcro tabs. The 3 chest pockets are wicked deep and roomy, softly lined, and will hold a ton of stuff. Behind the patch pockets are two more roomy zippered hand warming pockets. The length covers your butt while standing and yet you don't have to sit on the hem. It is washable. The workmanship is attractive and feminine. It is waterproof not just water resistant and the fabric is sturdy nylon. Bad: The zipper is not two way. There is no insulation for 6 inches across the entire front of the jacket top to bottom even though there are several layers of shell across your chest. The coat is not packable and I suspect it isn't very breathable either so would be a poor choice for back country skiing. Conclusion: I love the look and feel of it. I will use it constantly for commuting, horseback riding, clearing and marking trails, low exertion skiing, tromping around town to cover my butt in leggings, and as an upscale winter rain coat. The quality is not unlike my heavier $300 jacket of similar design. A terrific buy for the money! Thank you Sierra Trading for easy returns and great service. I buy from you often thanks to your great service.

I ordered the pink color. Jacket is really warm and great for skiing. Has a lot of pockets to put everything you need.

  • “Is it foldable and/or lightweight?”
Asked by sam from shreveport, la on 1/15/2018 11:06:25 AM
    • No. It’s actually a pretty heavy jacket. Not bulky to wear, but it would not fold up well for packing.
Answered on 1/15/2018 6:32:01 PM by Teri from Baltimore
    • The size small comes in a 2.6 lbs. It's more of a mid-weight..... but that is because it's a warm heavy duty ski jacket and it's nice and long and has a fur collar so it seems like a parka. I have a few lightweight packable jackets and they are only a pound or so but they are thin material and need a shell on them to be even remotely warm in the cold winters. I wear this hiking all the time in the winter with my ski pants and find it perfect. It does compress down but its not super tiny. When I received it, it was smaller than I thought it would be and the insulation puffed up after being left out of the bag for a couple days and being worn. Really it depends on how warm of jacket you are wanting and if you want to have a really lightweight one that needs a shell and extra base layers to keep warm this is not for you. But it's a great high quality winter parka that I love for my outdoor activities.

    • This is a heavier jacket, it folds, but is not packable.

  • “Is the faux fur on the hood removable? ”
Asked by Nessa from Seattle on 12/19/2017 8:36:32 PM
    • No it isn't, neither is the hood. But it is nice that the hood isn't heavy with lots of snaps. Just means you don't want to put it through the dryer.

  • “I ordered a small and it fit exactly on a camisole. There was no breathable gap. So I had to return it. I loved the product however. Im now confused if I should order a medium or a large as I want to layer up a couple layers below that(I’m headed to Alaska in winter) ”
Asked by Mandy from North Carolina on 12/18/2017 6:31:27 PM
    • I ordered a SMALL as well and it fits perfectly for me to layer underneath... I can fit a shirt, long sleeve layer, and my columbia jacket or a hoodie underneath and be comfortable.... I'm about 32" 26" 34" measurements. I usually measure out for an XS but always buy a SMALL due to the fact that I like to layer underneath and like the longer sleeves. Hard to say what would be best for you.... but it probably depends on if you want to only fit tighter fitting layers or if you want the coat to be baggier so you can wear loose layers underneath. I would put on the layers you think you'd wear underneath and then measure yourself over those layers and compare to size chart. Good luck

  • “What is the cold rating?”
Asked by Mindy from Utah on 12/14/2017 10:19:20 PM
    • Sorry there is not a temperature rating due to the number of factors that affect how warm it may keep you.
Answered on 12/15/2017 12:46:17 PM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • It really depends on the activity you are doing..... but if you plan on being out in the single digits or negatives I would definitely buy a size big enough to layer a fleece and thermal layer and maybe even a hoodie. It's great for around freezing if you aren't doing much. Would go colder if you are really getting a good workout.... it's a pretty average insulated ski jacket (not super heavy, not too light). Compared to womens sizes these tend to run a tad small (more like a 4-6 for small not 6-8). I normally order a SMALL even tho I size out for XS because I do like to layer.
