The reel casts smoothly and has sufficient drag for purpose. I generally like to use inexpensive reels on the beach because the conditions are very hard on equipment, I have no doubt that I'll get several years out of this reel before retiring it, making it a tremendous value at less than $40.

The reel is too small for the rod and better suited for an ultra lite combo. This combo is best suited as a purchase for it's individual components.
