This was my first ever purchase from STP, and I'm very pleased report that the transaction to delivery went smoothly. Delivery to Taiwan by UPS took less than a week.

I was so happy with the experience that I purchased again from STP soon right after receiving these boots. However, at checkout, m... Read More

  • Boot has the quality and features I want

Red Wing's Merchant Leather Boots have what I wanted in a work boot--a flat sole; thick, unlined rough-out leather; strong heal counter; roomy and high toe box. I've been wearing them for several hours each day since I received them. They were comfortable out of the box. The leather is shaping to my foot and ankle. The color i ordered and received is Olive which resembles, but is darker and much thicker than, the leather in a Desert Boot. I will wear them for general, mostly outdoor work and walks.
A terrific shoe that I will hope to wear for years. I haven't found any defects that make them seconds.

I have been eyeing these boots for quite some time so when I saw them on here in my size I was excited to get them, the boots are visually perfect they look great once I put them on I realized they had been stitched improperly leaving a piece of leather that made them very uncomfortable to wear. Will be returning them

Got this boot with a hole punched in the leather. Looks like a non-sellable model to me instead of s factory second.
  • Nice but with some caveats.

Seconds were in good shape. Only problem with condition I could spot was some dirt, which could be cleaned, I guess.

Bigger problem was the new structureless toe flattened just trying the boots on for a few minutes and pressed down on my big toes. Portended greater discomfort in future, so have to return.

Another issue is the weight, which is at least as heavy as the brand's Iron Ranger. Seems odd, given less structure and fewer pieces of leather. Then again the roughout olive Mojave leather is very thick.

Other than the above points, the boots are beautiful, the color is great, build quality is high and I regret the fact their comfort was compromised for me by the design.

As a note, break in will probably be fast, since the leather's pliable. Would be great if they had a toe box of some sort. Red Wing could surely make the lower profile toe with a matching toe box that doesn't collapse. I'm also guessing the sole material is heavier than it has to be.

If those points aren't an issue, I recommend the Merchant Boot without qualification.

About Red Wing

With a heritage dating back to 1905, Red Wing Shoes are legendary as an American success story. One Red Wing shoe style was standard GI-issue for WWI soldiers, and after emerging successfully from the Great Depression and the Second World War, the Red Wing brand name became synonymous with reliable, comfortable leather shoes and boots. Norman Rockwell, the artist famous for Americana artwork, even created a series of drawings for Red Wing Shoes. In the 1970s, Red Wing Shoes spread to Canada, Mexico, South America and Europe, offering its popular line of leather work boots and shoes. Red Wing has broadened its scope to offer everything from casual leather lace-up shoes and loafers to rugged work boots to thong sandals. Today, Red Wing runs three production facilities employing hundreds of expert craftsmen, but still makes each pair of oxfords, loafers, work boots and athletic shoes by hand.
