It's not too heavy, but just enough to cut the chill. It is cut longer than most fleece tops that I've used for this purpose in the past. Along with Redington's "castcut" with gusseted under arms this keeps the jacket nicely tucked in the waders while allowing full range casting movement. Only thing missing is an exterior chest pocket, but tha's a very small nit.
