I already own a Vapen in black in a 5wt and I love it. It's durable, casts well, and looks great.

It's not my go to rod in all situations, but it's a fantastic second stick that I regularly set up as a streamer rod or tight line nymph rig.

It doesn't throw dries as well as a high end Orvis or Sage, but in the medium price range, you really can't beat the Vapen.

It is also perfect as a beginner rod.

i personally love the synthetic handle, but I know some folks don't care for it as much...especially in red. It feels great and I got used to it pretty fast.

I wanted something smaller than my 5wt for some urban creek stocker fishing, but with a little more backbone than my 2wt or 3wt. I wanted to throw two or three nymph rigs and maybe an occasional indicator more easily and I wanted more length for tight lining than 7'6" 2wt which Is my standard.

I'd also found tugging on a fat two pound stocker moving slow in the cold water wasn't as fun as it should be with the smaller rod and into my lap fell this 4wt Vapen Red!

It suits my needs perfectly and actually throws dries better than the 5wt. The color might not be for everyone, but I like it and I was pleasantly surprised to find it's actually got some very discreet red accents at the joints which, once I discovered, look sweet as can be.

I feel i will use this rod a lot, almost certainly more than my 5wt VB, and at this price it's an incredible rod!
