Verified Buyer Reviewed by LibbyGH from Santa Cruz Mountains CA on Saturday, October 1, 2016The material is heavy-duty waterproofed and somewhat stiff. Empty the bag weighs several pounds. No doubt it could carry heavy things and still hold up well. The main issue is the difficult access to the main zippered compartment; when the straps are in backpack mode (not extended as in the product photo), it is surprisingly hard to unzip the compartment and put things in there. Another reviewer mentioned this issue as well. It's hard to understand how poorly designed this system is until you see it in person. Maybe when the straps are extended into shoulder strap-duffel carry mode, this creates more headroom to actually open the compartment flap? Also, the straps are not stowable inside the bag, which could be a problem if one checks the bag on a flight. As I was looking for a lightweight backpack-duffel with normal access to the main compartment, this didn't suit my needs.

The Alpaca met my spec that it was 22 inch length to meet carry on spec and lightweight. It has minor drawbacks. I'd like an outside quick access.pocket/sleeve. I'm a minimalist and just would like a couple less straps-not necessary
