I am 5'7", 165 lbs, and an athletic/muscular build. I got the large. I really like this base layer. It's got a good medium thickness. I used this as my base layer in Alaska during 15-30 temps, under snow pants and carhartt fleece liners. I also used it under some Duluth pants that I wear in the summer, and they worked just fine, though I wouldn't stay outside with the single layer. Definitely need something to break the wind over them if you plan to be in colder weather.

Great base layer! Good quality, wears well. First got these in XS (5'6" 100 lbs) and they did fit, but there was more compression in the calf/ankle than I wanted - would've been fine while hiking, but not for sleeping in a tent in cold weather. I exchanged for a S instead, which has a perfect amount of airspace between skin and fabric! I have extremely sensitive skin, but these don't make me itch like crazy. Nice wide waistband doesn't bunch or ride up!

These are the best thing to wear underneath when skiing, camping, or any time you need to stay warm and comfortable. I have had a couple pairs in the past, and Smartwool always wears well and looks good. Very soft and not itchy. True to fit with a comfy waistband.

I am 5'5 and 110. I previously purchased a size small which was okay, but in spite of the labels, it did shrink some. This time I got a Medium and am much happier. There is a little more wiggle room and the legs are longer. Over time, the dryer will change the make up of the material somehow as my top got smaller and thicker while the bottoms shortened and thinned. This time I will only use the dryer when I have to. I get cold easy and smart wool is about the only thing that keeps me warm as a base layer. Also, I can wear it for a few days while out camping and not have the body odor associated with other synthetics. Well worth the investment!
