When heated at all - from wearing, or if a light mist hits the fabric - it really stinks. Bad.
Found if we washed it on delicate with powdered detergent/soap and added 1 cup white vinegar to rinse it removed the oder. Had to do the rinse 3 times (with vinegar) to get the oder out.
Personally, I can tell there has been a change in ownership/management by the product and specials offerings - and I like the old ownership better.

Extremely well made, and super comfortable to wear. It feels like I'm tucked into my sleeping bag in a very good way. The only negatives are due to what this jacket is. It's a little fancy, it has soft linings in the pockets that feel great on your hands. The 600 fill is a little heavy, mostly due to it's dry defender coating. It's not a minimalist compressible jacket (it still packs pretty small especially if you pack it into a compression bag ;) it's a luxury option, and I'm good with that.

I just took this jacket on a backpacking trip in Shoshone National Forest/Washakie Wilderness. Being at 8,000 ft in August, I needed something to keep me warm on frosty nights without weighing me down during blazing hot days. This was perfect. At about 32 degrees F, I felt comfortable with two shirts under it, but kinda chilly with only one--it is a lightweight jacket, so don't expect a parka. I bought the large; found it true to size, and it allowed me my full range of motion. It stuffs into its pocket to about the size of a volleyball, but can compress in a pack to more of a softball-size. Also, when stuffed, it makes a good pillow! I expect I'll be taking this on bike rides once the weather in Chicago changes.

This jacket runs small. If you wear a medium in North Face be sure to order a large. I initially got a medium and it was too tight and had to return for a L. I bought this jacket at the end of the season (75% off) so I haven't had a chance to wear it yet in cold weather. I'm sure it will be warm enough for the mild Carolina winters. It is lightweight as expected and build quality appears good. I like the gray/black combo, it looks formal enough to wear casually.

This jacket is perfect for fall usage. With decent insulation, pockets to fit all of my needs, and a hoodie with decent cover it works well for me. It is light for a jacket, but was warmer then i expected it to be. The material is strong enough that it will not tear easily. Strong and reliable.

The size is right on and suits ones perfectly without looking swollen. Besides it is a very lightweight jacket and keep me warm at around 0 degree celsius.

Really good price and comfortable / lightweight jacket. It does seem to shed a lot of down in such a very short time having it. I'm concerned I'll be requesting a return at some point. Evidently Marmot warranties the jacket for life though.

The product fits and works as described. It is a very warm jacket. The only downside with it is a small hole in the inside of the jacket that is allowing feathers to come out.
