G3 Spitfire 88 XCD Alpine Skis
2nds. For long tours in varying conditions, G3 Spitfire 88 XCD alpine skis offer unmatched versatility. The early-rise tip and wood core create a ski that's light on the climbs and delivers performance on the descent. The XCD grip zone pattern built into the base lets you climb low-angle terrain without skins.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Yamabushi from Bend, OR on Tuesday, December 27, 2016This is the XCD version of the Spitfire with rocker tips (that already have good reviews), that was officially only sold in Japan (I personally saw this model in Japan last winter, and according to G3 catalog). The fish-scale pattern is positively protruded from the base and have an adequate purchase like many other good fish-scale skis for not-so-steep tour. You definitely want to carry skins for the steep climbing. It floats and skis pretty well on PNW powder for the 88mm waist, which is the skinniest of my quivers. Although it's not the lightest, it's pretty light 5.6lbs for my 166cm pair without bindings. I mounted La Sportiva (ATK) RT bindings. I can't wait to use them for the spring ski-mountaineering! (Not to confuse with Lycra Skimo)
