Reviewed by Hunter from MT on Sunday, June 26, 2016I purchased two rods, a FW for my girlfriend and the Diamond 3 WT for myself. I wanted a cheaper 3 WT that I would be willing to break in the trees and willows surrounding the smaller streams I will use it in. The first rod I tried was the FW and was immediately concerned as I knew that rod was going back without delay. It is nothing but a large stick with no action. I almost didn't even rig the Diamond up due to my disappointment with the FW. I'm glad I did, this rod is a world apart from the FW series. It has nice action, is light weight and decent materials. For the price of the Diamond on STP you can't go wrong. Your not buying a Sage One but you are also spending seven hundred less for a good performing rod.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by sdt from Georgia on Tuesday, June 14, 2016This is my second Ross Diamond series rod, and they are very nice for the price. I now have 9 ft. 4 and 5 weight Diamond rods. Fit and finish is great (although the "diamond" where the hook keeper should be is kind of silly), action is medium-fast- much like older sage rods such RPLs- and very pleasant. Have fished it the last two nights and it casts the 5 wt well at reasonable fishing distances (out to 50 feet or so). The handle on these rods is noticeably smaller than usual. I am 6'4" and have large hands, but I seem to adjust to the smaller handle after a few minutes of casting without too much problem. I have cast Ross FC and FS rods and think the quality of the Diamond blank makes the small handle worth adjusting to. Same for the higher price. There is a problem though- STP now sells the Ross diamond rods without a tube, which was probably some TJX corporate wizard's idea to make extra money as I am pretty sure I saw the cases for sale as separate items a few months ago. At any rate, STP does not have them now. So, you have to add the price of a rod tube and sock if you cannot figure something else out and want to protect your investment, which you should do- it is a nice rod and deserves to be treated as such. 5 stars for quality of rod for the money- 4 stars for having no tube.
