The rod is great for the price, Sixgill obviously put some resources into the design and paid for decent workmanship, looks and feels good, but STP needs to think about how they ship rods. Two skinny rods, shipped separately in their sub-carton alone, both got obviously bent in shipping, and one has a guide twisted badly enough that the epoxy is cracked and some threads broken. Bends back, but it isn't waterproof, so those threads will rot and the foot may rust, and the rod's carbon fiber may be bruised and prone to failure. The "good" rod may have a shortened lifespan too, we'll see. Rather see them arrive broken in half than with just hints that they've been mishandled.

The return policy for such cases, where the shipper has caused the problem, isn't perfectly satisfactory. Having to repack and drive a package to a UPS store isn't "free" to me, my time and gas is worth something, and it's a waste of resources to ship slightly broken stuff back and forth in a manner that ensures it gets more broken.

Bought this rod (The 9'-6" version, model # SC906L-2) to use for drift fishing with floats for steelheads. Looks pretty good. Like the number of guides (17, with top) and the fact that the rod is matt black, NOT shiny. Also has - albeit small - black thru handle touch. Not tested on fish yet, but did some test casting with a float and slinky in a local river. Had good control over the set-up and could easily feel the small bumps when dragging bottom. Think this will be a good rod in my collection. And the price was very attractive too. Now waiting to test it with a steelhead on, that would be nice and the ultimate test!
