I got this Ironman Sleek 150 "black face" watch for my birthday yesterday. The black face with lighted numbers is very hard to see (the numbers are too dim!) without using the "Indiglo" back light. I've been using Ironman watches since the first one came out in the 1980s- never had a problem viewing the display, but this "black face" is hard to read even when I'm not exercising- impossible to see it with a quick glance when I am exercising.
There is a "Contrast" function on this watch but changing this setting does nothing to improve the visibility of this display (no matter what the contrast setting I saw no improvement).
Very bad design- I can see why Timex no longer sells any watches with this "Black Face". I'm guessing this is from an older model year because I don't see any "black face" watches on the website.
The "TAP" function: There are 3 sensitivity settings: light, medium, hard
If I use anything but "light" I almost need to hit it with a hammer to set a lap split!
When I have it on the "light" setting, I simply have to slap it and it will record a split ; however the screen face is a big easy target so it would be easy to set a split without intending to: I am sure that I would accidentally touch it, or hit it on myself, brush, branches to cause false split times... Because of this I would not use the "TAP" function. I like the normal Ironman (30-lap, 50-lap, 100-lap) watch where I simply hit the button on the face to set a split time. It's almost impossible to activate that button by accident.
