Do yourself a favor - buy the most flotation you can find. The Ranger sets the bar for giving you the most flotation possible. This vest is as good as it gets. Sure, you can buy that fashionable vest that looks so cool on shore. But then when you swim in a rapid, fashion is pointless. The Ranger floats high, comfortable and the rescue harness is great if you have to rescue or get rescued. This is one time when fashion needs to be given the backseat. The small is small. I got it for when my kid grows into it because I know it will float him high above the water. Killer price on a killer vest

The ranger is an older design, but great for today's uses. It is a little bulky and constrictive for some users, but the added protection (from paddles, frames, trees) makes up for the bulkiness. No jacket has more floatation, and the bulk of the float is below the gut, making your head stick up out of the water, rather than just cresting the surface. NICE jacket. I'd trade the comfort of modern jackets for the safety of the Ranger any time.
