This is a quality base layer. Very comfortable. The size may be a little bit big, depending on how tight you want to feel. I got this as a gift for my mom and she generally wears size S or M. I ordered M for her. It was a little bit big for her, but that is fine. This time, I ordered size S. It was just right. Next time, she asks me to order size XS for her!

I love these Smartwool tops, and try to buy at least one each winter. They are so cozy, and if my neck gets hot, I can unzip it - unlike the usual turtleneck. They wash and wear very well, and last for years.

Please see my review of these items (Luxury Plus) about the confusion in the SmartWool and/or Sierra's labeling of these for weight (just Base Layer Top vs. Midweight).

Can't go wrong with a merino wool zip neck! I have many and they are warm (but not too warm) soft, and cut well.

Gorgeous color, body-conscious cut. This lightweight pullover hugs the body in the right way, but I returned it for a larger size so I have the option to layer it over something. I love it.

This SmartWool shirt is so soft!! I've always loved Icebreaker 260 shirts for their softness - still do, but SmartWool has this NT 250 which is luxurious. Fit is good as well.

I'm 5'9.5", 128 lbs., purchased size: S. I am an avid all season hiker, snowshoer, cross country skier. I bought two zip turtlenecks: one Imperial purple heather, one Persian red heather. PROS: a nice tailored fit, tight quality, malleable old school weave merino wool, which I love! It fits well next the the skin, unlike this 2106 season of softer, in my opinion, poorer quality weave and less tailored construction in the Smart wool design. These zips are comfortable soft, not "wrinklley"soft. With the quality of weave and tailoring of the Imperial purple heather, it can be worn as a nice casual piece with pair of high-end jeans socially. CONS: The sleeve lengths between the two weren't consistent--disappointing: the Imperial purple heather was just the perfect length of my long limbs coming below my wrist, while the Persian red heather fell just above my wrist which felt to short, so I'll be gifting that one to a friend.

this is a true to size medium (on my 140lb 5'7" self) and fit is ahtletic/slim in the arms and shoulders. if this is a 250, then it's not a like the midweight layers Smartwool put our 5 + years ago, when mid was considered a small %ile thicker than this. but it's not so thin like those you can put your fingers through either. i would say it's a spring weight, good for 50 degree morning rides with just a vest and easy to roll up and pack for the ride home when it warms up. i love zip necks for regulating temps after some cardio, and this one works nicely. girly shade of blush, not at all maroon, but not an exact match to the SW vest i also picked up. overall a solid piece from Smartwool that i expect to get many years out of it.
