Icebreaker Viento Hood Soft Shell Jacket - Merino Wool Lining (For Women)

Discontinued. Viento means wind in Spanish, but you might not notice the wind when you're wearing Icebreaker's Viento Hood jacket. Featuring a stretchy-soft, weather-repelling shell and oh-so-cozy performance merino wool lining, this baby resists the very thing it's named for.

Icebreaker did not skimp on the quality of the fabric and style of this jacket, but too bad they didn't pay attention to the fabrication. Based on the Icebreaker sizing chart it measured out to be a medium until you get to the hem which was more than a full inch smaller than described. Very disappointing because the upper body of the jacket fit well. I wear an 8-10 and always purchase size medium in Icebreaker but this time it did to work. If you have a very slim hip you may be able to get away with this jacket.

Size small was too tight all over and the neck was choking, so I returned it for a medium. The medium was too big everywhere except for the neck, which was still uncomfortably tight. It would be a nice jacket if the fit weren't so wonky.

I have a lot of icebreaker shirts and jackets and this is the first one that feels too snug. If I just wore a t-shirt, it would be OK, but I don't think a fleece of vest would fit under. I usually order a large and this feels more like a medium to me. It is very light-weight so I wouldn't call it cozy. I think if you're really slender with wide shoulders is would be OK but it didn't work for me. I'm 5'8' and 140 lb.

Gorgeous jacket. Beautiful fabric. Love the rich purple color. Well made with fine details, as is typical for IB.
I'm 5'5" and 125lbs, and the Small fit perfectly.
I returned this item, however, because with the zipper and the hood up, the jacket took on a weird shape. It created an unflattering and annoying bump in the chest area that I couldn't deal with. Maybe the un-hooded version would be better.

I am a male who bought this jacket for the female in my life. I also bought the men's version for myself and returned it, and am returning the women's version for the same reason: the merino lining is so thin that you might not notice that it's there. I doubt very seriously if a lining this thin would help much with warmth. But the shell itself is very nice (for the men's and women's versions) and is styled very nicely. So if you are already wearing something that can take care of the warmth factor, then this jacket will help keep the wind out as well as a bit of light rain.

I love the fit and feel of this jacket. The quality of the design and the materials is great. It runs true to size - I wear a M/L in icebreaker and Smartwool shirts depending on how form-fitting the cut is and the Medium jackets within the Icebreaker line fit me perfectly. The Viento has a subtly more feminine cut than most soft shells that flatters without over doing it. It looks nice and sleek with just a light shirt or several layers. I wore several layers under the jacket the other day knowing the conditions were going to go from chilly to very warm - light t-shirt, light long sleeve, and Cascade fleece jacket. The jacket stretched to accommodate all the layers without looking like Michelin Man and I was still able to move freely. I chose the hooded version because sometimes I want that little bit more protection from chilly wind than just a hat provides - the hood is not large - which is nice in that it doesn't feel bulky when you're sitting/driving but it's big enough to wear over a winter hat if conditions should call for it.

This is a beautiful well made jacket. However: I have to send it back because the hood is too small---doesn't cover my entire head---
and, when fully zipped up to the neck, it is quite high & bothers me. I don't have a short neck, but do have a large sized head. I'm very sorry to have to return this. :( I have quite a few zippered items from icebreaker from STP, wear them a lot and enjoy them.
