After using polyester blends as under layers for too long, I invested in SmartWool for my husband, and he is so thankful! I wasn't sure if he would like the zipper closure, but he says its great because it provides some extra warmth at the neck. I could tell from the model photo that the arms were long, and I am pleased that the regular size (i.e. not tall) fits my 6'8" husband just fine! Sierra Trading Post made this item very affordable!

Great base layer that is stylish and warm. Wicking tee followed by this and a gore Tex shell were sufficient for skiing. Runs a wee bit small so if your between sizes go up

This top is great as a baselayer... warm and comfortable. It's a tight fit so might be hard to fit any other layers underneath it, I haven't tried yet. For reference I'm 5'9" and wear a size 36 jacket. I got a size small in this 1/4 zip and it is plenty long and a perfect next to skin fit.

soft and densely woven. my sister's bf asked for another one this year, after receiving one last year. he likes it better than his icebreaker.

No matter what winter activity I am involved in my base layers are comprised of smartwool clothing. Climbing trees to make a buck, climbing ice to get a thrill, running to stay in shape, xc skiing cause I enjoy it or mt bike riding cause I want another beer. Smartwool tops, bottoms and socks are always next to my skin all winter long.

I have purchased very many items from Sierra Trading Post and have always received top quality for a very good price. I only had to return 2 items in the last 3 years, only one due to a problem with the item, and have received excellent service with the returns.

I'm almost always a size M, and I purchased this in a M as well. It fits great and I don't have issues fitting it under most of my fleece and puffy layers. It's a little too bulky to fit under fleeces that fit very slim. I didn't like the NTS 250 under a Patagonia R1 (M), but it fits well under an R3 (M). The sleeves are more than long enough for comfort, but I would have liked thumbholes. The zip neck is deep enough to allow for some serious ventilation. I've worn it quite a few times biking/hiking hard and sweating a lot and it never really smells bad like synthetics quickly do. One thing to watch out for (as with all merino) is VELCRO. It latches onto this fabric and is very difficult to remove without pulling a lot of the threads out. There are a few spots on my sleeves where this has happened and it's easy to see the damage caused.
