I was a ski-tech in college, so I installed the mounting plate myself on some Alpina Controls... piece of cake with the right tools. I wish I had purchased some skis with the NIS plate already installed (it's always un-nerving to drill into a new pair of skis). If your skis already have the NIS plate factory-installed, you just have to slide the bindings into place (super quick and easy with a little tool that comes with the bindings). These work pretty well, but if you remove your boots in powder, it's tricky to get back in (I lift the ski up and blow the ice out with a deep breath).

we are recreational skiers and these were super easy to mount and fit. We were able to get out skiing within an hour of getting them in the mail, inlcuding wax time!

The bindings are very nice and come w a NIS plate that you mount to non nis (flat) skis. There were no instructions, the installation is very simple and you can Google search the instructions which are found on the rottefella web site. All the proper screws were included, total of 16. Hardest part is figuring out which direction of the plate to point forward. You can figure it out by placing the binding on the plate and looking at how they mate up prior to drilling holes. Make sure you also line up the boot bail into the binding as that will determine where you will actually mount the plate to the ski. You always line the boot bail on the balance point of the skis. Sometimes the balance points are slightly off, then you just average the balance point between the skis. You then tape the binding plate where you want it on the ski temporarily so you can use the plate as a jig and carefully drill 6 tiny pilot holes filled up by 6 holes w the proper drill bit for r the screw size, always good to wrap the drill bit w some tape to limit the hole depth. Remember a couple dops of wood glue in the holes before the screws go in. The best screwdriver for the screws is a positrack size. The
bindings then slide onto the plate from the front towards the rear of the ski. You need a special metal tool which was not included w my bindings???to bend the binding a bit to click into the right spot. A screwdriver or can openermight work. Not sure why the tool was missing, but any nNordic shop will have it and can help. Now put yourboots into the binding you have just mounted to your ski and then you can line up the heel plate up so it is in the right spot for you boot size. Hope this helps. You can always pay a Nordic tech $25 to mount your skis.

Who the heck send bindings out without a template though. What on earth was Rottefella thinking.

About Rottefella

Rottefella is Norwegian for “rat trap,” which is how their inventor described the look of the first split-toe bindings, created in 1927. Some of the top-rated bindings on the market, Rottefella ski bindings are designed to adjust to variable snow conditions, taking full advantage of the ski’s potential. Rottefella bindings for telemark offer the simplicity and security of an alpine binding while offering the option of a loose heel. And cross-country skiers appreciate Rottefella bindings for their balance, forward thrust and grip, meaning less wax.
