Lightweight so wonderful for summer. They are my summer go to pants. I own many pair of these in different colors. They wear well, dry quickly, don't have much of a wrinkle problem. I hope they never discontinue these.

  • “What is the inseam measurement of these pants?”

  • “I usually wear a size 14 cause I like my pants a little baggy not tight. But with Royal Robbins nylon shorts, I wear a size 12. Am I likely to wear a size 12 in these Royal Robbins nylon pants also?”
Asked by kfordco from Colorado on 6/17/2015 10:37:37 AM
    • I typically wear a size 10 short and that is what I ordered for these pants. They seem to fit true to size, at least for me.
Answered on 6/17/2015 10:44:56 AM by Pam from Bay Area, CA
    • I also wear size 12 normally, and the Cardiff pants were baggy on me, such that I took up both of the waist adjustments and still had a comfortably loose feel. So if you want a tighter fit, it may well be that going down one size will do the trick. The 12 fit me nicely (once I took in the waist) for purposes of rafting and hiking, where I want a little looseness. Sometimes when I'm in doubt, I order both sizes and return the one that fits least well.

    • Would encourage you to ck out the sizing parameters on the STP website for these nylon pants. I find that my aize 10 Cardiff OA at require using the smaller of the two button waist adjustments for rhe best fit. Likewise, if the pants you purchase are a bit a if in the waist, you can use adjust the most distant button to your best fit.

Lastly, with STP's $2.95 return policy, you cannot go wrong either size you select. Returns are no hassle and easy.

      Good luck

    • I have never tried the nylon shorts, so I can't say for sure, but I found my size 4 pants are a little on the baggy side, so if you wear size 12 RR shorts, I would think size 12 pants would fit you.

    • When I received my pants they seemed to fit pretty true to size but a little on the tighter side. Not by much.

    • I wear between a 12 and 14 also. These are a generous 14 through hips especially. I really like that you can make the waist a little smaller using a button/stretch waist thingy. I hope this helps. The inseam is 28 inches in the short size.

    • For me--at the waist. Great pants!

    • The waist is really at the waist. Measuring from the crotch seam to the top of the front waistband, it is 12.75 inches in a size 16.

    • For me, these pants seemed to need to sit at my actual waist (which is a dealbreaker for me -- unless I want to wear pants that are practically touching my bra strap).

    • I have four pairs of these Royal Robbin Cardiff pants. All, size 10 Long. My experience is that these pants sit at the waist like a normal pair of womens trousers and it below the waist as described in your question. Yet they are not what some refer to a "mom jeans" by being overly high waisted. Instead, these pants sit at the natural rise of the waist and rest nicely flat on the front making for a clean and crisp appearance.

Too, I will share that the waist band is adjustable. There are two buttons with tabs on each side of the waist if these pants which allows for expansion or contraction of the waist. I find the smaller waist circumference suits me best while still allowing one to tuck a shirt into the waist.

    • fits at waist on me
Answered on 5/26/2015 11:13:55 PM by kk from CA
    • I didn't mention anything about the waistline in my own review, however it IS the case that these pants do come right to my waist. The waistline on me is a tiny bit large so that I can pull the pant down an inch below my navel, if I want, or I could move the button a half inch tighter and have the pant fit right over my navel. 'hope this helps.

    • They sit at just about waist level for me. They are certainly not 3-5" below.
Answered on 5/27/2015 9:09:49 AM by Pam from Bay Area, CA
    • The waist of the pants sits about one inch below the waist. A great pair of pants of you like pants that fit at the waist. The pants are light weight, good fabric, and very comfortable. Has a slightly baggy look. I have 8 pair of them. I am 64 yr old and love them but my 27 yr old daughter will not wear them because of the high waist.
Answered on 5/28/2015 5:41:29 AM by Shirley Hope from Tenn
    • Yes, the pants are really at the waist. If they become too loose when they stretch out there are buttons in the back that can tighten up the waist.
I do not like pants that fit below the waist and these pants fit at the waist.

    • The pair I have in "short" are 29.0 inches. True to the size stated on the website. In my experience over literally decades of wearing Royal Robbins clothes, they are well made and precisely made without noticeable variation from one piece to the next in the same style from the same year. I have found that the t-shirt tops like the "Crossover" style are the same style from year to year, but the length on the tops has been a little longer in recent years.

About Royal Robbins

By the late-1960s, veteran Yosemite rock climber Royal Robbins and his wife Liz had grown tired of wearing cutoff jeans on the crag. At the time, apparel designed specifically for outdoor adventure was virtually non-existent. After years of wishing for something better, the couple finally decided to create their own, starting with a pair of climbing shorts called the “Billy Goat.” This was the beginning of Royal Robbins’ clothing revolution. Today, nearly 50 years later, Royal Robbins outdoor clothing is as rugged and reliable as ever. When you buy a Royal Robbins sweater or shirt, or a Royal Robbins pair of pants or shorts, you can bet it will fit great, whether you’re climbing in the Sierra Nevadas, camping in the backcountry or relaxing in your own backyard.
