My favorite skirt; lots o' compliments

I bought this skirt in both black and brown to wear on a trip to Italy two summers ago (I don't wear shorts anymore, but wanted to be comfortable in the heat while reasonably "chic" in fashion-conscious Italy). I loved how well the skirt packed and how easily it went with a variety of tops. In the dark color it was easy to dress up a bit with a change of shoes and accessories. I think the skirt is a style that women of many ages can wear with ease.

I haven't worn the skirt in colder weather, so I don't know if the synthetic fabric pairs well with tights or stockings. The fabric is opaque enough I can wear it without a slip in the summer.

The tapered "no-waist" construction and slightly stretchy fabric fits well even when I go up or down a few pounds (sort of "floats" on the upper hips). While I do think the sizes run a bit big (I wear the 6 and I'm usually an 8-10), I do notice the waist is a bit roomier and sits slightly lower than my waist after wearing the skirt all day. I don't usually tuck tops in, either (something to consider when choosing a size).

I wouldn't dry the synthetic fabric in a hot dryer, though - either hang it up to dry or briefly dry in a very low temp dryer. It will dry quickly overnight if you wash it by hand in a sink while traveling.

I wore the skirts so much I bought two more in khaki and stone colors. If it came in other colors that complimented my wardrobe, I'd get more, as they are great everyday skirts for me in the summer. The fabric washes and hangs dry very well and doesn't pill or look worn at all. I get compliments whenever I wear these skirts and never feel uncomfortable or under- or over-dressed.

I'm 5'3" and the hem hits just below my knees - not too short and not too long for my middle-aged legs ;-). The slightly flared bias fabric panel at the hem adds a dash of style and comfort when climbing stairs, getting in and out of taxis/cars, and any time a longer stride is needed. The zip and snap pockets at the side seams and lower hem area are not bulky; they're perfect for secure shopping at outdoor markets without a purse or wallet.
