  • Excellent, versatile casual jacket if the fit works for you.

This jacket has the excellent Royal Robbins generous fit in the body. The sleeves will feel a bit shorter than you might expect for the size, and may feel a bit more snug at the forearms and wrists than you're used to in a sport coat. This works for me, but long-armed men, or slim men who've sized it to their torso, may find the sleeves short.
The Townsend blazer is a great cooler weather version of Royal Robbin's Travel Jacket; same cut and features, however the sleeves and body are lined, unlike the nylon RR Travel Jacket. The fabric finish is soft and does feel sort of wooly, the color suggests a subtle dark tweed with some lighter flecks. I've found it to be a bit water resistant too--at least it doesn't seem to soak and saturate in short exposures to rain.
This is just one more of Royal Robbins great jacket styles. I have several RR jackets and they are all the best of their category, but this one may be the best. It functions like a casual, rumpled, blazer, maybe not dressy enough for a tie, but it can pull off a knit tie in the right business casual setting. One the other end of the spectrum, it works with any casual trousers and shirt, comfortable all day and never out of place. Here's hoping Royal Robbins continues to make versions of this excellent jacket.

  • “What is the sleeve length for a 2xl, in shirt sizes -- 36" would be standard for that size.”

  • “I would like to know do this jacket run small I will excel size 46”
Asked by Dbrew from New York on 3/23/2018 5:42:30 PM
    • No in the body; yes in the sleeves. It has a square generous fit in the body but the sleeves are fairly short in each size and in each version/fabric of this Royal Robbins travel jacket.
For me that's not a bad thing--it's very comfortable to wear and I don't like too-long sleeves dragging past my wrists. The sleeves fit like modern sport coat sleeve length rather than adventure jacket sleeve length.

About Royal Robbins

By the late-1960s, veteran Yosemite rock climber Royal Robbins and his wife Liz had grown tired of wearing cutoff jeans on the crag. At the time, apparel designed specifically for outdoor adventure was virtually non-existent. After years of wishing for something better, the couple finally decided to create their own, starting with a pair of climbing shorts called the “Billy Goat.” This was the beginning of Royal Robbins’ clothing revolution. Today, nearly 50 years later, Royal Robbins outdoor clothing is as rugged and reliable as ever. When you buy a Royal Robbins sweater or shirt, or a Royal Robbins pair of pants or shorts, you can bet it will fit great, whether you’re climbing in the Sierra Nevadas, camping in the backcountry or relaxing in your own backyard.
