I have made many purchases and returns from local stores, only to be disappointed about the size and fit. I was hesitant about the size chart's accuracy. We have a 60ish pound weimaraner. He has a deep chest cavity and most jackets don't fit well. I measured our dog, matched his measurements up ... Read More

My dachshund does like sweaters or jackets but tolerated this one. Was great for our first snow of the season. Will keep that wiener warm.

Cute, well made jacket. Especially liked the reflective trim. Size Small is supposed to fit a 22-27" girth but I couldn't get the zipper to meet on my 42 pound pit mix with a 25" girth.

I have a 45lb Heeler/pit mix and a 37lb aussie/border collie mix. Based on others' pictures, we got a large (raspberry) for the heeler and a medium (orange) for the lanky bc. They both fit well and don't ride up. It hasn't been cold enough to wear them hiking yet, but between the heeler's short coat and the bc coming from the heat of NM, these jackets will be great on long hikes in the winter.

Our shorthair pup has one of these while our other has a waterproof jacket. Make sure you actually measure before ordering, our 42lb lab mix is a small, and our 15lb mini shepherd looking thing is an XS. The fit is perfect though and she doesn't even notice she's wearing it. Helps with chilly nights and light rain because she doesn't like the drops hitting her and the fleece dries quickly enough that it's no problem.

I have a 5 lb yorkie and the XXS fits great. I don't enjoy dressing a dog but you will never housebreak a small dog if they are too cold outside. This is a great weight coat for cool weather 40-50 degrees, for long walks. I have a quilted coat for freezing temps and I assume you can layer. Only complaint, my dog wears a harness and I had to put a opening on the back (I heard Ruffwear is correcting this issue). You cannot beat STP prices. I have another small dog poodle mix that couldn't wear this coat in XS or S, the spacing for the legs was too far apart.

  • “Will this jacket fit over a harness? Doesn't look like does.”
Asked by mayainc from Jersey Shore on 10/18/2017 9:35:59 PM
    • It is not designed for use with a harness, but you can attach a leash to the back.

  • “Does it cover the dog's chest and belly? How does it attach? Thank you.”
Asked by RT from Washington on 1/22/2017 5:44:35 PM
    • Covers chest & belly. Unisex fit, goes past rib cage on underside. Zips on the side from the neck down. Did not fit my dog (boxer mix, 67lb--too tight around his neck), but the one bought for a gift fit that dog well.

    • It covers his chest and stops at the end of his rib cage. There is a side zipper.

    • It does cover the chest and most of the belly. It zips up the side.

    • Yes. It does cover her chest and belly. Actually that is one of the features that make it such a great jacket!
It zips from neck to tail down the left side of the jacket.

We love this jacket. I would buy another in another color just to have and to make it easier to have one always on hand when laundering.

    • This does cover the belly and chest, it attaches with a zipper.

    • The jacket zips up the side. There is a nice extra piece of fleece that sticks out keeping fur away from the zipper. It covers quite a bit of the chest/belly, leaving enough room for them to do their business. I'm quite pleased, although I was only able to keep one - the xxs fit my 6lb chihuahua perfect and the xs is too roomy for my 10lb.. If you have a male and it is too roomy they will not be able to do their business without soiling the jacket.

    • Yes. It covers fairly well. The only problem is my boy dog gets pee on it because it hangs a little loose. He's a tall 68lb vizsla, I ordered a large- medium would have been too small. I've had this problem with other shirts in the past and I simply cut them. Maybe I'll get fancy and re-sew it.

    • That is a very good question. I have six of these which are worn by 3 dogs. My advice is to pay close attention to the sizing chart. They do cover the dog's chest and belly. My female dog with a 26 inch chest wears the small, my ale dog with the 28-29 inch chest wears the medium, and the male with the 31 inch chest wears the large. The jackets completely cover the dogs' chests and they cover most of the belly. But you have to be careful to not get the jacket too big for male dogs because if it is too long in the belly area, the dog can pee on it. This had not happened with my males and their jackets because I measured them before ordering. If they wear the jackets for several days, they can stretch some but when they are washed, they snug back up in the belly area. The jackets zip from the neck area down to the tail area.

    • Yes, as you can see in the picture the fleece comes down over the chest and underneath the belly across the rib cage area. It is angled underneath so that the waist is exposed - my male dog can still pee with this on without soiling the garment.

It fastens with a zipper that runs horizontally down the garment from the neck/shoulder to the hip/tail area. Your dog needs to step through the arm/front leg holes and then you zip it up the side.
