5.0 out of 5 stars. Just bought a 2nd pair...Reviewed by Davey Crockett from Tennessee, California on Tuesday, March 13, 2018Much to my surprise, I love these shoes. Thought at very least I would dislike these Salewa Capsicos immensely. I mean, I love most Salewa shoes I have—or have had—in my arsenal of footgear. The mountaineering boots, approach shoes, running shoes, hikers. All top notch European design and quality.
When I received the first pair of Salewa Capsico, I could tell the quality was definitely there—a seriously solid shoe, and pleasantly insulated to boot. But the form was different from any other Salewa I've ever encountered. All the other Salewas my feet and ankles have had the pleasure of doing business with sport a typical Euro medium-narrow width and snug toe box. Snug is secure, and that's actually great for challenging terrain or sport. The Capsico toe box, on the other hand, in somewhat wide. Further, the inside arch is more gentle—not flat, but flatter than most Salewas. Also, unlike other Salewas and many other sports shoes, there is zero forward pitch or raised heel—and at first, it just felt weird. I must say however, that I quickly got used to this and actually enjoy the Achilles stretch when walking around suburban environments.
Waterproof yes. Quicklace, check. Easy on/ off, yes. Insulated warmth, check. Traction, awesome on wet surfaces, gravel, sidewalk, grass, mud, you name it. The only surface I have not tried yet is wet slippery/ mossy river or shore rock, or ice, but I have other shoes for that. I mostly use these Capsicos around the neighborhood, walking the pup, doing errands outdoors in all kinds of winter NorCal weather. The treads are seriously like a winter tire. The grip on the go. When you want to stop, you stop. I suspect these would be fantastic as an aprés ski loafer knocking about up in the Sierras.
I wear a 9M and these work for me with or without socks. Spot-on fit. -
4.0 out of 5 stars. Warm & Comfy!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Adam from Minnesota on Sunday, December 24, 2017These shoes are great for winter! They are warm, waterproof and have great traction. The only downside is that they aren’t all that aesthetically pleasing :)
