keeping them, but they are really just so-so

I have arthritis in one ankle, and need shoes with a stiff (NON flexible) sole. I am usually stuck walking and exercising in hiking shoes. On one review I read that the sole was stiff, so I decided to give them a try. Well, the sole might be stiff compared to a light running shoe, but they are not stiff enough for me. I am coming from an older version of 5-10 Camp Fours (before they sold off the company and ruined them).... and this sneaker does not compare at all; It is more sneakery... not as sturdy all around. After a 2 hour walk around on mostly sidewalks, they already look "worn." I did purchase a 1/2 size smaller... and they do fit with a little room in the toes... but they feel like you have BOATS ON YOUR FEET. I have never worn a pair of shoes that make my feet look/feel huge - I think partly because the sole juts out from the back of your heel, although I feel no added stability from this feature. I can wear these with bootleg pants, but definitely NOT with a straight leg exercise pant or jean -- Ronald McDonald looking. I've worn them, so I won't return... and they are fairly comfortable... but not worth the $$, and definitely NOT a sturdy shoe for someone wanting a stiff sole.
