I bought these in size 11 to replace a pair of Keen Koven Mid-Hiking Boots that I had worn out. Talk about a step up. The soles are thicker, traction better, the ankle support is higher and they are lighter. I had placed inserts into my Keens to help provide more heel protection but, so far, this... Read More

great looking boot-usually wear a 12, but 11.5 fits fine. Light weight too.

Bought these shoes after many recommendations online. Was 160€. In first glance the shoes are great catch - comfortable, not too heavy, and string structure.
In reality, after 3.5 months of use I can tell that water resistance isn't working well, was crossing low level rivers and water ran into my shoes. Also the shoe sole isn't solid.
Bottom line: good for light trekking, not for rough terrain (or as my friend says it's good for basketball)
Also, wanted to write to salomon, but it's kind of impossible to get them online.

I just put about 10 miles of higher-intermediate terrain on these boots and they are a rock-solid product. Great traction, great support, I feel they will have a good amount of longevity. A few things to note: 1) I have an exact-size 13 foot but I had to go with 12s for this boot (thanks STP for great support!), 2) I have a narrow foot and can't say I'd recommend these for similar - these seemed to be designed for a bit wider foot, and 3) the heels are very hard - as I have narrow/skinny/bony feet, I'm getting a lot of pressure on my heel, particularly left, to the point where it's a smidge painful on incline.

Boots appear to be well made. However they were oversized. Size 10 more like 10 1/2 or 11. Thought I would try them anyway and made the mistake of removing the tags and wearing to the store and back.Advised by phone, by Sierra that I could not return them for a smaller size. Guess I have been spoiled by dealing w/ LL Bean & their return policy. Now I am stuck with a pair of oversized boots.

    • There's typically 1.5 - 2 sizes difference between women's and men's shoe sizes.

    • I have a narrow heel and normal width forefoot, and because women's shoes are somewhat narrower I occasionally wear them.
      I think the sizing difference averages 1 1/, a men's 10.5 (me) usually needs a women's 12. Occasionally I can wear a women's 11.5. So 1 to 1 1/2 size difference.

    • The general differences between Men’s and Women’s hiking boots:

Last size. Men’s boots are usually made on a larger last, to account for the additional size and volume of a man’s foot.
Weight. Men’s boots usually weigh more.
Higher ankle support. Usually the men’s version comes up higher on the ankle.
Colors! Designers tend to make men’s boots earth tones, and recently they’ve started to add some unique colors to women’s hiking boots!

About Salomon

The legendary Salomon outdoor equipment company was founded more than 60 years ago in the French Alps by Francois Salomon. After developing the world’s first self-releasing ski binging in 1966, the company continued to grow and innovate new products. By the early 1990s, the brand had taken the wintersports market by storm with Salomon skis made using cap construction, a totally new innovation at the time. Salmon boots quickly became famous for their balance of performance and comfort on the slopes. By the turn of the century, Salomon snowboards were helping athletes push themselves in the park and powder. Today, Salomon continues to be an industry leader, with products that range from skis and snowboards to hiking boots and trail running shoes.
