They have been great on all terrain here in Az from sharp rocky terrain(good foot plate to protect) to wet conditions(dry fast). They have good toe protection and are very durable. They fit my foot, which is on the more narrow side, like a glove. No break in needed for me. The only complaint I have had from anyone I recomended these to, was for the first few hikes one of my in laws said it rubbed funny on his heel, but after that he had absolutely no trouble. Good firm heel support as is needed for a good trail shoe, I like a nice rigid sole and these certainly have that. The toe guard is very durable. They fit me like a glove and I am very disappointed they are not being made anymore.

It is true to size, toe box nicely rounded with plenty of room yet not sloppy. Typical salomon lace locking system with I really like. The sole is firm. As a trail runner this should be very supportive. I use them to hike/walk on gravel walking paths in a state park. The Ortholite footbed is very comfortable. My foot is a high arch foot, very sensitive to even a crum inside my shoe. I plan to take a pair and use for work.
