5.0 out of 5 stars. Great Successor to the 6.0
Reviewed by JJB from San Diego on Wednesday, June 14, 2017
I owned a pair of Exodus 6.0 and was greatly disappointed when Saucony discontinued the shoe and I couldn't order another pair on line or find one in the stores. So, with great skepticism, I purchased a pair of Exodus ISOs for $59.00. I used the 6.0 predominantly for hiking and a bit of trail running. When I first put the ISOs on they were extremely comfortable right out of the box. Well cushioned, roomy toe box, a narrower mid foot and heel counter and a lacing system that allowed me to snugly fit the shoe. The shoe is not a lightweight minimalist racing flat and if that is what you're looking for forget it. What it is. is a superb trail shoe, a tank that is superb for hiking (which is what I mostly use it for) and trail running. Its outsole is very sticky and keeps me confident that I won't slip in various conditions on various trails. It doesn't have a rock plate but doesn't need one due to the thickness of the shoes outsole. The last/outsole is wide and the lateral portions of the upper mesh are built up, providing excellent lateral support to prevent rolling one's ankles. Plus the sole is stiffer. Very durable as I use them quite a bit (daily) and have seen no unusual wear and tear in the uppers or outsole. My only minor complaint is that unlike the 6.0, which had lugs, the outsole on the ISO is constructed in a manner that it tends to pick up small rocks and pebbles. But, I haven't felt them while on the trail and only notice them at the end of my hikes/runs. Just bend the sole and they pop out. I can't comment on the shoes performance in the rain because I live in SoCal and haven't had the opportunity to use them in wet conditions. Otherwise, they are versatile and a pleasure to use. They look good to. I will probably order a second pair to use in case Saucony discontinues the ISO. I highly recommend this shoe.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Nice, not Gnarly

Good fit and good traction. A bit chunky which suggests that it's built for gnarly, rocky terrain. But it's not. There's something about the lateral stability that's off. The first time out on technical terrain (Northeast US) I nearly rolled my ankle twice. I've run the same trails on Brooks Cascadias and did not have this problem.

If you are on nice, groomed trails this will be a good shoe. But on technical stuff I'd look for something else.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Nice shoes, runs small though..

I am normally the most standard size 10 you can get but with wider feet, normally any 10 I order fits. These do fit small length wise but feel good for width. If they had a 1/2 size bigger I would exchange out my 10's for a little more toe room but these are great shoes otherwise so hopefully they will allow for a little stretching at my big toe. Light, comfortable, have good support for on or off trail use and surprisingly hug your foot really well considering how much breathable mesh is exposed. I wasn't expecting as lightweight of a shoe to have this much side support.

Will likely never by a different shoe brand after 2 pairs; these fit snigger than previous ones but they are molded w plastic and tougher protection...
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Not for me, but appear substantial

I only wear Saucony. Big fan of Virrata that Saucony stopped making, and also like Kinvara. Both of those shoes have room in the forefoot. The Xodus was more tight, which is probably a good think for support off road, but more than I wanted. Plus, also felt a little small. I wear an 11 in the Virrata and Kinvara. These seemed a little on the small side for the same size. I sent them back so I can't give a review on how they wear, just initial impression.
