It's always a compromise between weight and performance. Historical reviews of this product shows they nailed it.

I swapped to alpine DIN soles and these boots can easily drive my Blizzard Bonifide 180s (with FKS 140s) and Armada JJ 185s (with Baron 13s) very close to dedicated Alpine boots.

So impressed with the Scarpa Freedom SL. I did a lot of research over the past 8 months. I've tried on a lot of boots, spoken to a lot of skiers and finally narrowed it down to this one. The Freedom SL is an incredibly light, solid, well-made boot with enough substance to drive the skis I have both in and out of bounds. Price was fantastic on Sierra Trading Post and shipped immediately. Could not be happier with the experience and am excited for the season ahead!

Good boot, decent fit except my left foot is wide for the typical scarpa lasts. Except unlike their boots and shoes these dont stretch. Good thing STP's return policy is awesome and could score some bigger ones. Only size available was a little too big. Better too big then too small just going to have to double up on socks.

Intuition liners are very forgiving so find a local resource or read these links (and others) to achieve slipper-like bliss: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php/102575-Tutorial-Molding-Intuition-Liners

I found the the sizing to actually be very close the same as usual US sizing with mondo 28 = 10-10.5 and 110mm (=EE) for me.
Those with high insteps will likely need a different boot.
The flex rating of 120 seems correct.
Walk mode has one of the best connectors.
    Cant angle adjustment is adequate.
Forward lean angle adjustment is adequate.
Cuff middle adjustment seems smallish to me but it is adjustable with 1 larger and 1 smaller.
Required tool for all hex and the phillips screw is included.
    All manufacturer documentation is included.

Return shipping is included (thanks Sierra, never had to use it!)..

Size seems to run small to US sizes, so I had to go up a size and a half to get a good fit. Great adjustments, just waiting to hit the slopes to use them.

  • “What model year are these boots? ”
Asked by MKD from Colorado on 9/14/2017 11:04:54 AM
    • These are model year 2016.

    • I use them for both patroling at the resort as well as touring in the local canyons in my town. I've probably got 18 tour trips on them this winter and 30 resort days. I can tighten them up real nice when I'm at the resort, as well as keep them loose when i tour, walk around, and hike. I had the inserts heat molded at the local shop (not at home) for best fit which adds an even more awesome fit. Good luck!

    • It's just as good as a dedicated Alpine boot and the replaceable soles allows changing types with minimal effort.
Some users run touring heel soles (and pin bracket) or modified DIN heel soles (and pin bracket) with DIN toe soles for alpine use. I swap both.
These boots are much lighter than my alpine boots (Atomic) and it's obvious.
      Best of luck!

    • Nope, just get the Vibram mountain piste attachment and you'll be set! I use mine for work, skinning with my tech setup, and piste with the Vibrams on. Cheers!

    • I ski in the new Vipecs I bought from BD do not the King Pins--but I would assume they would be just fine. This boot would probably be ideal for the king pin because you can put on the top part of the sole for the pins, and use the alpine boot sole attachment on the heal. This way you would benefit from part of the rockered lugged sole when you hike. Cool idea and good luck!
