I road bike but I wear mountain style shoes. I went up one size to accommodate for thick socks and to prevent any pinching of my toes. That was successful however because the shoes were a little too big I had ankle rub. Took care of that with a bandaid. They kept my feet from getting cold when I started out in temps in the high 40's low 50's. My experience with cycling shoes has been that if you buy them to fit properly, you will have a close fit because you don't want your foot sliding around. Reality knocks on the door when the temps drop and you need to keep your feet from freezing. I am a size 8 in my regular shoes and usually wear a 40 in cycling shoes. These were a 41. In retrospect I should have ordered these in two sizes to see which would be a better fit since these are not narrow at the toes as many cycling shoes tend to be.
