About Sierra Designs DriDown Vest - 650 Fill Power (For Men)

Closeouts. When you need bulk-free warmth and the ability to keep your arms free to move, zip up the Sierra Designs DriDown vest and layer it over a fleece or base layer. The 650 fill power DriDown insulation stays drier, keeps you warmer and dries faster than normal down fill, and a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish adds a layer of protection from the elements.

This is a fine vest for Men at a very reasonable price. I would consider this a slimmer fit for sizing. The L fit close to the body for someone wearing a Sport Jacket size 42/43 - 180# - 5'9" tall, and normally wearing between a M and L shirt. I think the arm holes are designed smaller with elastic fitting so the area around the arms keep out cold air, it also gives you more freedom of movement with less binding but with a tighter than normal vest fit in the upper arms and shoulder area. I like the fact that it fits without bulk in the chest and upper body and is ideal as a liner for layering. Material appears strong, fill weight seems normal for a 650 fill vest, I cannot comment on the dry down for I have not worn it in the rain. You can get some interesting information about the Dry Down concept on the company website. The colors are muted and not glossy, the black is a heather grey-black,the green a heather dark green.

Well made expensive quality Sierra Designs light down vest. Slim fit is ideal for indoor wear or layering with a heavier jacket. More comfortable than a puffer style yet maintains warmth. Attention to detail in the stitching, arm holes, zipper and pockets. Front has both a zipper and snaps for the convenience and cold barrier. Inner lining is a lighter, smoother nylon than the outer lining for comfort. There's even an extra security pocket on one of the two generous interior pockets. Only odd feature is the draw string pulls are hidden in the hand pockets, so unusual that you feel them while keeping your hands warm.

Question & Answer

    • Pete, if your dryer has an "air fluff, no heat" setting you should be fine. I would not recommend any heat though. My vest will be worn everyday it is fall, winter or spring. Love it.

    • Tumble drying on low heat won't hurt, but also will not fluff up more than when new. This is a thin down vest designed for layering. To avoid clumping after washing with down detergent, do tumble dry it on low heat using a couple of tennis balls.

    • Don't know for sure if that would help.

    • An interesting question, however the vest insulates surprisingly well just by itself.

    • Sorry Pete, I cannot say that I have tried it.

  • “This says navy but looks more like slate blue.
    What color is it?”
Asked by Fern from New York on 11/29/2016 6:50:44 AM
    • Sorry I cannot answer your question as mine is the olive green color. Very nice vest though, somewhat slimmer fitting in my opinion.
