Bought these socks to bridge that gap left by my rising winter tights. They worked well for that. HOWEVER, after about 60 miles both socks had holes in the big toes. I do wear other socks when I run and have not had issues with the others. Disappointed. I did like the fit and warmth. They are thin but not my thinnest running socks.

Burned a hole through both of these socks on my third run with them. And, yes, my nails are clipped short. I have $2 socks that I've worn more than 100 times and still don't have holes. Not sure what the issue is with these.

If they are 2nds, you really can't even tell. There's nothing different between these and off-the-shelf SmartWool socks.

These are very thin, as you might expect with an UL sock. I'm very pleased with these, and will never have any new socks other than SmartWool or DarnTough. Quality is comparable, and both fit me well. True to size, although at the upper/lower end of the range you can get away with either size.

Hole in the big toe after three miles in the first pair. thought it might be my toenail (although I hadn't had problems with any other socks), so I cut and filed. Hole in the big toe after three miles in the second pair. There is something wrong with these socks.

    • My size L socks fit nice and snug for my size 10.5D foot.
Answered on 5/25/2015 4:06:13 PM by SA from Tennessee
    • They seem to run true to size. I wear 10.5/11 with a narrow foot and the fit is great. They do have a bit of stretch but depending how wide your foot is it may be too snug.

    • According to our fit models this item is running true to size.

    • I love these socks. I think they're worth taking a chance on. My feet are extra wide, and I always order my regular size, and they fit fine. I have also ordered a size larger on occasion when they were out of my size, and they fit as well. I personally don't throw my wool socks in the dryer, but also kept that as an option if I received some that were too large. Also, I do a lot of my son's wash, and he also has these socks and always runs them through the dryer. They look so small to me, but they still fit him just fine. I honestly bet either size would work. There usually isn't much difference in size. I don't like things too tight, so would probably go with the extra large. If you haven't used their return express, it's great. If what you order doesn't work, you can either trade them immediately, so you don't have to wait for the return to be processed, or order two difference sizes and keep the one that works best, and exchange the other ones. I really believe you'll love these socks either way. Good luck! I hope this information is helpful!

    • Also, I believe one of their representatives told me once that Smartwool sold their name to China, and now uses Goodhew for their American socks, if that is helpful.

  • “Are they seamless across the toe?”
Asked by Shifra G. from Colorado on 10/19/2014 8:09:19 AM
    • If this were a knitting question, I would have to answer that it does have a seam. From the standpoint of practical functionality, the sock is "seamless." One does not experience the seam at the toes, or anywhere. A "princess" would sense the embroidered letters for SMARTWOOL before sensing the seam. But then, I am but a humble peasant who runs miles and miles, not one who requires a high stack of mattresses...

    • They do have a seam, but it is so well made you cannot feel it, I had to look closely to distinguish between the seam and the embroidered Smartwool logo. They are thin, light, and very comfortable for either running or Insanity workouts.

    • No.

    • NO! The top about at place just before toes meet foot is a sewed seam. No seam on bottom of toes. I have had no problem with the seam and have these on everyday.
