This is a quality made sock. What I like best is that the very top of the sock does not have tight elastic to pinch my calf. There's a fan-like stitching that gives plenty of room while being firm enough to keep the sock from falling down. Great design that does not leave a pressure indentation unde... Read More

I love merino wool, and I like socks that can be scrunched down to look cute with tall boots. These fit those criteria perfectly. I wear a size 11.5, and I always feel that Smartwool M socks are slightly small, but the L are just a little too big. Alas, that does not stop me from purchasing both sizes - whatever is available!

These do have just the right amount of snug yet stretchy and not binding. The toe seam was not described as linked and many claimed as flat or smooth can still bite and dig into toes. So I was concerned that these might not worked. These are indeed smoother than most and not noticeable, especially with a shoe or slipper that has some room in the toebox. These, like all the SmartWool sock I've tried so far, are soft and well constructed. I'm sure they'd do fine in a warm to cold machine wash and delicate dryer setting. To maximize the longevity of stretchiness in the calves, though, I prefer to hang dry. When I can, I also prefer to wash with a mild soap because detergents seem to dry and roughen wools. When I do hand wash, I've found that placing them in the washing machine for a delicate, brief spin doesn't distort their shape and they air dry much faster without towel drying - or having damp towels left over to air dry too.

Just the right amount of squeezing the calf for great circulation for those of us on our feet all day. All of my socks for work are SmartWool. I have replaced them all over time. Great subtle pattern for a professional environment.

    • These definitely go fully past the calf and to the knee (just below knee cap) for a petite 5'2" woman with moderate or average calf size. In real fit the contour is just like that shown on the photo. There's especially good stretch so I'd expect they'd most likely go to the knee as well for someone of more average height and weight. Since the weave of the cuff is especially comfortable, they might even still not be too binding if they topped off lower towards or along the calf for an even taller or heavier person. Yes, they are not only soft, comfortable and non-binding, there's nice rebound on the stretch so they stay up well too!

    • I suppose it all depends how long your legs are, right? For me, it comes right at my kneecap but I like pulling it up higher because I cycle with these on. And I LOVE them! And yes, they do stay up really well when I am biking, too. These are really good quality socks, and I am so happy with my purchase.
