SmartWool let me down

I LOVE SmartWools. When I saw these SW-described "heavyweight hiking" socks in their rainbow of fantastic colors, I had to rein myself in not to order one of each. I did order two--yellow and green. When they arrived, the two colors were virtually identical; the green is slightly mintier than the yellow, which is sort of a celery color...NOT yellow by any stretch. Anyway I was prepared to let that go because they did feel thick and soft. But when I put them on, the calves felt large, limp and baggy, and this impression was confirmed when I walked to work. The socks tend to slump down past the heel, slithering into the shoe with the friction of every step. Those of you who know SmartWool know that such a performance is bizarrely out of step with the company's other wares (if you'll pardon the pun). I tried drying them in the drier to shrink them a bit but they didn't budge...a plus if you have extremely large or muscular calves.

On the plus side, the socks are warm and cushiony, and the colors are great even if they aren't what I wanted. These socks are great lounge socks and they are good at the office too. I do still walk to work in them, but you can bet I'll never hike in them if I can help it.

I would buy these for a sedentary person with cold feet. I think these soft, nonitchy, warm, cushiony, colorful socks would make anyone's PJs complete.
