Best deal around for these.

I had the old design of Smartwool liners and the heel wore out fairly quickly. But I decided to buy more pairs because they are pretty thin and I like the fact that they are mostly merino wool with all the non-stink and warmth benefits that accompany it.

The new ones seem to be just as good and are advertised as having a "new and improved" more durable heel. Yay! I can't say yet whether it is more durable over the long-term, but comparing the stitching and fabric type to my old ones, I believe the claim.

Overall quality looks to be good and you wouldn't know these were seconds except for the IRREGULARS stamped on each sock. That particular marking is already flaking off so it's no big deal. Sometimes you can see a big quality drop with seconds but not with these. But I mean, they're socks. Sock making isn't particularly challenging from a manufacturing standpoint so there really shouldn't be much difference.

I use these as hiking liners but do wear them as regular dress socks occasionally. Wool only for me as synthetics stink and aren't as comfortable.
