Warm and Attractive

I bought this because I wanted a warm top I could be active in that I can machine wash and for that it’s perfect. This is a much warmer base layer than similar styles in synthetic and certainly attractive enough to wear with nothing over it. I normally wear a medium but bought this in a large because I have the exact same top in a different color that I bought a few years ago from another company that fit better in a large. The medium was too tight around the chest.

The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is a little scratchy although it claims not to be and I don’t consider it very soft although they describe merino wool as having "incredible softness”. I knew it would be scratchy because my other top is the same, but it’s worth it because I only notice the scratchiness for a few minutes after I put it on, then I don’t even notice I’m wearing it. My husband has a merino wool sweater that really is incredibly soft and itch free so I know it’s possible with merino wool, but it is not a tight fit base layer so maybe the type of weaving has something to do with these tops being scratchy or maybe there are different qualities of merino wool. I don’t know. This is advertised as being “odor resistant” but I don’t find it to be any more odor resistant than any other natural fiber top I have.

I bought the "imperial purple heather" because they were out of the "deep sea heather" in large. The purple is a beautiful color but brings out the yellow in my skin. I’ll live with it because they don't have free shipping or returns, otherwise I’d try the red. Normally I buy from a store that has free shipping and returns but Sierra’s price was better on this so I’m stuck with the color if I don’t want to loose the lower price.
