They absorb sweat so your shoes don't stink and they are non-slip so that don't fall down at your heel. For most of my ballet shoes, they are hidden and no knows you are wearing wool socks in the summer. Normally closer to $14, they are a steal here at STP and I've ordered several pairs.

Most of the time they stayed in position well, but I did have a couple times in the loafers that I found I had to pull the heal back into place. I think they fit best with a snug fitting shoe. I recommend them, but know they is a chance they may slip off a bit in the heel.
