Love this boot. Watched it all last season waiting for it to go on sale, with the hopes of finding my size once it did. Once again, Sierra to the rescue. Got my boot, and at a great price. Sizing comment: though many reviewers suggested going down a size if you were a 1/2 size like me (I'm an 8.5), ... Read More

Love the boots. They look great and keep my feet warm.

The fit seemed to be a bit tighter on one foot than the other.

I have been eyeing these boots for a while, then Sorel stopped making them and it was hard for me to find a pair in my size. I was thrilled to find a size 8 on Derailed. I wear a size 7, but due to a wide foot from years of ballet, usually go 7.5. I always buy Sorels in an 8 and they fit well. With the insulation, definitely go the half size up, gives you some room to double up your wool socks if needed.
I flipping love these boots. They are warm, gorgeous, and comfortably tall enough for the foot of snow we just got.

but I couldn't get them off my feet! I pulled and pulled and it took several minutes of twisting and yanking. Not good, esp. when there are kids around who need help with their shoes. They are gorgeous boots, though, and I loved the grey color. Maybe if I'd ordered my regular size - 5.5, instead of sizing down to size 5 like was suggested, I wouldn't have had this issue, but oh well. The fur on the boot is cute, and I loved the extra height. The leather that wraps down onto the rubber even looked nicer in person than in the picture -- much less like it would get grimy. It's too bad, because it was a gorgeous boot!

Asked by Bernadeta Kujaczynska from Poland on 1/29/2014 4:04:54 AM
    • Here is a reference chart for you to check: size 38 in Poland is a size 6 in the US.

These are great boots, I live in an area that is extremely cold in the winter with lots of snow and I wear my sorels every day. They keep my feet warm and dry.

  • “What is the calf circumference of a size 5?”
Asked by Upstate NY transplant from Guilderland, NY on 12/27/2013 8:38:55 PM
    • I don't know..I wear a 7 1/2 and got these in a 8...I don't think I have a wide calf. I have plenty of room to tuck my jeans in them. I really like these boots, I can tell you that. They are made really well.

    • I am not sure. I can say I do have narrow calfs even as a runner, just under 12.5" and I struggle to find boots 'snug' enough to not get that weird swimming around the calf look. I think I read some where, as I did a ton of research before buying, that they are 18" and that may be true, but with the fur they do not swim. I prefer a cowboy boot with a calf circumference of no greater than 14" if that helps. They are not delicate boots, but still look feminine. I wanted the Sorel Slimpack tall riding boots as they do have a more narrow calf area, but I missed them at Sierra in the Tusk color and than finally any color! I would bet with time you will find your size at Sierra again in the Slimpack Tall. I am 5'6", 116# and most of my weight is from being a larger framed gal.

    • With the adjustable lip, it can expand up to 16-17 inches. Tied tightly, as in the picture, 14-15 inches.

    • Sorry--I have the 9's, so I have no idea what the size 5 circumference would be. If it helps, I didn't think the calf circumference seemed small--I have muscular calves (I'm a runner-so they're not stick thin!) and they are fine by me.

    • I've walked through many a snow drift without any issues. Obviously if you get snow in the top or you don't have them laced up well you could get snow or water in that way, but they are solid boots that have kept me warm and dry all last winter and this one as well.

    • The entire boot is waterproof, the leather has been coated with water repellent. Lace them up tightly for a good snug fit.

    • I wore my boots out in the snow for the first time and they kept my feet warm and dry. They really are very nice boots. I believe the enitre boot is waterproof, however, they are not made to go sloshing around in 4 feet of snow....these boots are made for city walking on the sidewalks and would need rubber boots to slosh around in the snow.

    • The tongue of the boot and the lace area is suede. The rest of the upper shaft of the boot is leather. I have not had any issues with the boot being wet.
Answered on 12/10/2013 4:17:43 PM by Lisa D. from Upper Michigan
    • The foot, because its rubber, is water proof. The shaft is a leather/suede combo, so I wear it through snow, but NOT puddles. I have stayed dry through the snow. I also treated the boot with SNOW-Seal, a wax that protects the leather and repels water...the suede part I put a spray suede protector on.
Hope this helps. If you're going through slushy stuff, or puddles, Sorel makes other wonderful boots suited for that!

Asked by Roseannadana from Washington on 12/7/2013 9:57:13 AM
    • They seem to be wide enough around the calf...I tuck my jeans in....I don't think it would be a problem even for people with wide calves.
Answered on 12/7/2013 12:07:54 PM by Naples4u from West Virginia
    • I wear a size 6, but the circumference is 14 inches and with the lace up, there is the option to widen the top, which I did.
Answered on 12/7/2013 12:24:43 PM by Urban Hippie Buddhist from indy
    • I have wider calves and wear a 7, I was able to have my jeans tucked in my boots and still look good with the front lacing. my calves are about 16inch and there was room if you need it (think thick pants)

    • Plenty of room. I have Neanderthal calves, and they are soooo roomy. The leather is very soft and liner is warm. But when really cold the rubber shoe is cold. Not enough padding in bottom. Fit to size..Going to make my own wool socks. Great tread, perfect for running in snow.
Answered on 12/7/2013 5:51:53 PM by afuzzesocks from NM
    • I measured the boot at where the top lace starts with the laces as far out as they will go and they measure 20". The laces are very long and they lace all the way down to where the arch is on the foot so there is a lot of area to open up to conform to many calf/arch configurations. And since I bought them a couple of weeks ago, I have been wearing them in 2 degree weather all day inside and out side and my feet stay warm and very comfortable,.

About Sorel

Canadians know a thing or two about cold weather, so it's not surprising they were behind one of the most popular cold-weather boots ever created. Sorel - founded in Kitchener, Ontario, in 1962 - is perhaps best known for the ubiquitous Caribou, a boot that pioneered the use of a unique material that reflected heat back to the foot. This reflective material was incorporated into Sorel's advanced four-layer construction process that includes a weather-resistant shell, wicking liners and ThermoPlus® felt inner liners to keep feet dry and toasty. Now nearly a century old, Sorel continues to meet the rigorous demands of today's active lifestyles - from snowmobiling to snowshoeing, sledding to skiing - with its highly respected line of footwear and apparel.
