I purchased these pants for a our planned African Safari but just tried them out on a 4-day jaunt to Nassau, The Bahamas & they were perfect for a multitude of activities: They dressed up well for "resort elegant" dinners, they were comfortable & warm enough for airport & plane AC, & I arrived ready... At first, I loved these pants. Convenient, light, and easy to make into shorts, but the seams are awful. I bought them while on vacation and brought them home and immediately washed them, I did not dry because I was weary of what the heat would do to them. I pull the pants out of the dryer and on both pairs I bought the seam along the crotch was ripped open. The fabric is not good for hiking either as it does not stretch or allow full range of movement which is needed when hiking. I wasted my money on these pants and wish I would've waited to spend it on quality hiking pants.

These pants make the perfect hiking pants, light weight and cool, I would purchase another pair that were not convertibles. As a need to stay covered because of ticks and that can be pulled tight at ankles.

I don't do much hiking but will be up in the mountains of New York at the end of August at a resort that has many trails. I was warned about the abundance of ticks and it was suggested I get hiking pants. These were well priced and are supposed to be light weight so I got them. The size is a little small. I'm generally a 6 but got the 8's because I thought they might run small. What puzzles me is why the hem is so wide when you probably would want to tuck them into your boots. They do have an elastic in the hem which you can tighten as much as you need to but then you have this long elastic hanging out. I'll keep them and wear them at the end of August and then probably never again.

I purchased these in a size I thought would be loose and roomy, but was in fact just a little too snug when sitting down. So I exchanged them for the next size up. There seems to be quite a lot of increase from one size to the next. The pair I have now is too big in the waist, but I will keep them anyway and wear a belt, I guess. They fill a need for a basic pair of lightweight hiking pants with zip-off lower legs to convert to shorts. I like the many pockets (5--3 with velcro flaps) and the feel of the quick-drying nylon. There were lots and lots of loose threads hanging off everywhere, inside and out, but upon close examination, the seams do appear to be firmly stitched.

  • “What is the inseam for size 10 and size 12?”
Asked by LB from Texas on 8/5/2015 1:36:39 PM
    • I purchased size 8's. The inseam for size 8 is about 28.5 inches. Hope this helps.

  • “I have fuller hips and a small waist, will the elastic waist generally work well enough for this body type. (I usually have a gap in the waist for pants that fit my hips.)”
Asked by nola girl from New Orleans on 12/9/2014 5:02:58 PM
    • I think these will work. They are looking and very comfortable

    • I think the elastic waist would work good for you.

    • My wife has similar body habitus. We had to send for a smaller size that she is used to wearing, but the pair she traded in for fits fine without the "gap" issue.

    • Hard to say. My hips are certainly not slim, and I definitely don't have a small waist either. The waist has elastic on the sides but a zipper and button on the front, so they're perhaps not as flexible as a totally elastic waist. I generally take a size 12 in jeans and that's what I ordered for these. If anything they're a bit on the roomy side.

    • These will gap, also, especially after wearing them a while. But they are well made, dry quickly, and the shorts are a little longer which I like. Also lots of pockets. The price is right, too. Hope this helps.

    • I had to use a belt as the waist was slightly loose. I hope this helps.

  • “What is the rise for an 8, and the inseam length?”
Asked by Gd from Az on 9/15/2014 9:58:15 PM
    • I'm not sure since I returned them - but I am 5'6" and around 130 lbs and felt they were too short for me.

    • Hi, I got the size 6 and was going to send back and exchange for 8 but I think I will keep these as a diet goal to get in to!! I SHOULD be a size 6 for my height, 5' 2 1/2". I really love these pants, I feel for the price they can't be beat, the picture makes them seem kind of manly cut, but they are very womanly cut. They sit at the waist and the rise I measured from top of waistband to the crotch seams is 10", the inseam for shorts is 9", and the total leg inseam is 29", I may not have to hem them when I have on boots, yippee! I think I may order another pair as for $23.50 they are great!! I love the Seneca color-- more a true khaki color then the picture shows. I love these pants as much as or more than the LL Bean $65 Tropicwear zip leg pants I also bought recently!! They don't seem to have printed my review for those other Stillwater pants, the ones for $23.95, they were awful!! way too small on top and ballooning pants, bad quality. The label inside these says "10,000 ft above sea level" but the plastic bag pants came in says Stillwater so I wonder if Stillwater makes the 10,000 feet line also. Hope this all helps! Sierra Gal p.s I think the specs say the inseam for size 10 is 30" so not sure what it would be for 8, 29" or 30"
Answered on 9/16/2014 11:30:49 AM by Sierra hiker from California
    • The rise on the pair I received was 14 inches. I'm not sure what the inseam was, I'm sorry, but I'm a 30 length and they were probably close to a 31 or 32.
